THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER - Matt Damon Confirms Return And Teases "Upgrade" To THOR: RAGNAROK Role

Set photos have confirmed that Matt Damon will return as the Asgardian actor who portrays Loki in Thor: Love and Thunder, and the actor has now teased how this movie will "upgrade" his Ragnarok cameo.

Matt Damon's surprise cameo in Thor: Ragnarok was a riot, and featured the Jason Bourne star portraying Loki in a live performance recapping the events of Thor: The Dark World

Set photos have confirmed that the actor will reprise the role in Thor: Love and Thunder (you can find out who is playing Hela here), and Damon opened up about his return in an interview with SiriusXM. "I don't know if it's secret or not though everybody knows. I went down there to shoot. I think they sussed out, because paparazzi took pictures of us so that they sussed out what we were doing."

"We were kind of reprising a cameo that we, that Luke Hemsworth and I did in the last one," he continued, confirming that this performance will retell the events of Thor: Ragnarok. "And we had a ball and so Taika [Waititi] had us back again, to kind of run that joke back and upgrade it a little bit."

Something tells us that we'll get to see Damon's Loki die at the hands of "Thanos," but who will play the Mad Titan obviously remains to be seen (if, in fact, he does appear).

There are those who have argued that a small cameo role like this one is a waste of Damon's talents, but it's a lot of fun to see his take on Loki, and proved to be a genuine surprise back in 2017. Sam Neill will also be back as Odin, while Luke Hemsworth is set to reprise the role of the God of Thunder, Thor.

Thor: Love and Thunder also stars Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Chris Pratt, Jaimie Alexander, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Bradley Cooper, Taika Waititi, and Sean Gunn, and is currently set to be released in theaters on May 6, 2022.

It felt like Damon just flew down to Aus to party with the Hemsworths than film anything noteworthy, cameo or not. The government made a huge deal about it so the pap photos kinda had to happen.

It appears they all had fun the first time and did again so those who said it was a waste of Damon's talents I just don't understand. Cameos in films have been done for ages and usually for fun by the actors involved. No waste of talent, just fun.

@Mugens - Matt Damon's cameo was great, don't know why anyone would say its a waste because he would never play any other role if not a cameo. I prefer his Deadpool 2 cameo where he explains the most hygienic way of wiping your butt.

Matt Damon loves his cameos. Deadpool 2, Ragnarok… hell even in Entourage he was incredible. His post credits scene in that is hilarious. Here it is:

If Thanos is going to appear in the play, I think having Josh Brolin playing him would be funny. Anyway, loved the theatre sequence in Ragnarok and i'm looking forward to this one. Well, i'm looking forward to the whole movie. Give me some Taika!!!

@Turogalh - That would be priceless. Just have him be some Asgardian and then have Thor react like WTF hahaha.

Ok, so- this is admittedly probably a really dumb theory, but the Loki series got me wondering: what if the “Asgardian actors” are actually variants?

As long as Matt Damon says "Big Bendy Horns" again, I'm good.
