Matt Damon's surprise cameo in Thor: Ragnarok was a riot, and featured the Jason Bourne star portraying Loki in a live performance recapping the events of Thor: The Dark World.
Set photos have confirmed that the actor will reprise the role in Thor: Love and Thunder (you can find out who is playing Hela here), and Damon opened up about his return in an interview with SiriusXM. "I don't know if it's secret or not though everybody knows. I went down there to shoot. I think they sussed out, because paparazzi took pictures of us so that they sussed out what we were doing."
"We were kind of reprising a cameo that we, that Luke Hemsworth and I did in the last one," he continued, confirming that this performance will retell the events of Thor: Ragnarok. "And we had a ball and so Taika [Waititi] had us back again, to kind of run that joke back and upgrade it a little bit."
Something tells us that we'll get to see Damon's Loki die at the hands of "Thanos," but who will play the Mad Titan obviously remains to be seen (if, in fact, he does appear).
There are those who have argued that a small cameo role like this one is a waste of Damon's talents, but it's a lot of fun to see his take on Loki, and proved to be a genuine surprise back in 2017. Sam Neill will also be back as Odin, while Luke Hemsworth is set to reprise the role of the God of Thunder, Thor.
Thor: Love and Thunder also stars Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Chris Pratt, Jaimie Alexander, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Bradley Cooper, Taika Waititi, and Sean Gunn, and is currently set to be released in theaters on May 6, 2022.
