As we await the first official teaser trailer - which has been heavily rumored to debut onilne this coming Monday - some images of the upcoming Marvel Legends line for Thor: Love and Thunder have leaked online, offering our first official look at former The Dark Knight star Christian Bale as the villain of the piece, Gorr the God Butcher.
This take on Gorr is quite a departure from the character's appearance in the comic books, and will likely prove to be divisive.
Based on the photo, Wave 1 will also include Thor, Ravager Thor, Mighty Thor, King Valkyrie, Star-Lord, and Groot. The build-a-figure will assemble Korg.
In addition to Chris Hemsworth as the titular God of Thunder, the cast will also feature Academy Award-winner Natalie Portman as Jane Foster/Mighty Thor, Tessa Thompson as King Valkyrie, Academy Award-winner Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher, Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Jaimie Alexander as Sif, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, 9x Academy Award-nominee Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon, Vin Diesel as Groot, Sean Gunn as Kraglin Obfonteri, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, Taika Waititi as Korg, and Academy Award-winner Russell Crowe as Zeus.
Academy Award-winner Matt Damon, Luke Hemsworth, and 3x Golden Globe-nominee Sam Neill will reprise their respective roles as Asgardian actors from the previous installment, with 2x Academy Award-nominee Melissa McCarthy joining them as Hela and Ben Falcone appearing in an undisclosed role.
The Academy Award-winning Taika Waititi will return to the director's chair, utilizing a screenplay he co-wrote with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Someone Great; Sweet/Vicious). Plot details are currently under wraps.
Thor: Love and Thunder is slated to hit theaters on July 8, 2022.
