Rumors have been doing the rounds for a while now that Lady Sif might show up in Thor: Love and Thunder, and the new poster that accompanied last night's full trailer finally confirmed the fan-favorite Asgardian warrior's return.
Though Sif doesn't actually appear on the one-sheet, actress Jaimie Alexander is credited along with the rest of the movie's principal cast right below the title logo!
Sif was introduced in the first Thor movie and had a fairly substantial part to play in the story, but since then, the character has been seriously underutilized in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with only a short cameo in Thor: The Dark World and brief appearance on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Loki to boast of.
Alexander did recently hint that she might be set to reprise the role in an interview ("I would probably cease to exist if I actually told what I have coming up") and an Instagram post, but it's nice to finally have official confirmation.
With everything going on in Love and Thunder, we don't expect Sif to have a major role, but at least we know she hasn't been left on the shelf and could return in other projects down the line.
Thor: Love and Thunder finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor.
Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
Directed by Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, Jojo Rabbit) and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, Thor: Love and Thunder opens in theaters July 8, 2022.
