THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER Star Chris Hemsworth Hints That This Could Be His FINAL Marvel Studios Movie

Will Thor: Love and Thunder be the final time we see Chris Hemsworth's God of Thunder in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? The actor has made some comments that might leave fans concerned for his future...

Chris Hemsworth has been playing the MCU's God of Thunder since 2011's Thor, though it was way back in 2009 that the then relative unknown was first cast. Nearly a decade and a half on, the actor will reprise the role in this summer's Thor: Love and Thunder, but could that be it for his stint as this iconic Avenger?

We know Natalie Portman's Jane Foster will transform into the Mighty Thor, and with so much of Phase 4 about passing familiar mantles to new heroes (Captain America and Hawkeye, for example), could the Odinson's story be nearing its end?

Talking to Wired in the video below, Hemsworth suggested the Thor: Ragnarok sequel could mark his final appearance in the MCU. "Well, the last [Marvel movie] I shot was 'Thor: Love and Thunder' and it might be my last Marvel movie, I don't know," he admitted. "It was a wild and fun and wacky experience, as all Taika Waititi movies are."

"Played that character for ten, eleven, years now, and each time it's been new and exciting, and this was no exception to that. It felt very fresh and it felt like we were trying something we hadn't tried before," Hemsworth continued. "I was, in Taika's words, I think a wacky, wild, romantic comedy set in space."

With Thor set to take on a villain called Gorr the God Butcher, we probably shouldn't be surprised that the actor is teasing fans with the possibility that his character might not make it out of this adventure alive. There's also a chance his contract is up, and if we've learned anything from Tom Holland, an actor hinting that they're done with a role just makes fans want to see them more!

We'll see what the future holds in store for Hemsworth's Thunder God, but be sure to check out the full interview with the Thor: Love and Thunder star below:

The movie finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor.

Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi, the movie stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Russell Crowe, Jaimie Alexander, Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, and Sean Gunn among others.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set to be released in theaters on July 8, 2022.

I would not mind if MCU ends in one mega epic multivers colaps/rebirth event-movie - and then (if Sony finally stop hogging "their" characters) we get a full reboot that basicly would be the golden age 616 universe adapted to both the big and small screen.
This would make it easier to finally include the X-Men done right and some backstories that they messed up pretty bad in MCU, like the backstory of Odin and his meery Asgardians.. (Come on.. How can Thor not even have been born during the start viking age?)

@Floke - I think we'll see the X-Men before that happens, if it even happens at all. I think with the amount the stuff we've still not seen, they can populate the MCU for alteast another decade or so.

And Thor is born before the viking age right? Doesn't he say in Infinity War that he is 3000 years old?

@bkmeijer1 - always wondered how the mcu ends. Will it be huge event movie or will it just sputter out on a random movie / show

@ShimmyShimmyYA - I think it won't end. IMy guess is they will keep producing content, but not at that four movies/four shows a year rate.

We have franchises like Jurassic Park or Star Wars that still continue within the same continuity as 30 and 45 years ago respectively. The MCU produces more, but it also has much more source material to draw from to maintain that.

@ShimmyShimmyYA - I feel like Kang is the perfect villain to cause a reboot style event. Secret Wars could be the catalyst to change the things that need changed now, like actors or bringing back dead characters, while integrating new things that Marvel didn't have access to at the beginning of the MCU.

Makes sense. These guys gotta retire from the MCU at some point. This ain't the comics, lol.

Could be, but I doubt it. I think we'll see some of the original heroes in the Avengers movie. Thor, Hulk, War Machine and maybe even Hawkeye might just stick around

I love when every lead actor says this. We know you want that bag and I can't respect it enough.

I think he’s said in the past something along the lines of being down to do more, but things can change. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how this one goes and where it leaves Thor. Hemsworth has had a long run and is the only one so far to get a fourth solo film. It’s definitely a good time to call it done should that be the case. But we shall see.

I wanna see Thor's "happily ever after", way in the future looking like Odin, drinkin in a space bar. Maybe Loki's there too.

They all say that till that fat bump in pay and commitment to a couple cameos as well as another avengers film with new contract negotiations. Act like you’re done so they offer more. The ol RDJ move.

I’m willing to bet he will be back for at least one more team up movie and I wouldn’t be surprised if they brought back Taika Waititi for Thor 5 to complete his own trilogy.

Is this the new trend with marvel actors? Saying it’ll be their last movie to hype it up? 😋

At least Elizabeth Olsen is honest and says she hopes she comes back hehe

@MisterDoctor217 - I think Cumberbatch has said so as well, that he wants to play the character as long as possible.
