Marvel Studios welcomes new royalty to cast of the "Thor" film, as Rene Russo has been tapped to play Frigga, the Queen of Asgard, wife of almighty Odin and the mother to both Thor and Loki!
As Frigga, Russo will star opposite Odin--played by Anthony Hopkins--forming a royal family truly worthy of the Asgardian gods! With an array of film credits that includes "Lethal Weapon 3," "Lethal Weapon 4," "The Thomas Crown Affair," "Get Shorty," "Two For The Money" and many more, she brings power, grace and a wealth of experience to the role.
The actress will star alongside Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Anthony Hopkins (Odin), Natalie Portman (Jane Foster), Stuart Townsend (Fandral), Tadanobu Asano (Hogun) and Ray Stevenson (Volstagg). Kenneth Branagh will direct the film, which will be released on May 20, 2011.
"Thor" is one of a continuing slate of films being produced by Marvel Studios based on the Marvel characters, including "Iron Man 2" on May 7, 2010, "The First Avenger: Captain America" on July 22, 2011 and "The Avengers" on May 4, 2012.
