Marvel Studios welcomes new royalty to cast of the "Thor" film, as Rene Russo has been tapped to play Frigga, the Queen of Asgard, wife of almighty Odin and the mother to both Thor and Loki!

As Frigga, Russo will star opposite Odin--played by Anthony Hopkins--forming a royal family truly worthy of the Asgardian gods! With an array of film credits that includes "Lethal Weapon 3," "Lethal Weapon 4," "The Thomas Crown Affair," "Get Shorty," "Two For The Money" and many more, she brings power, grace and a wealth of experience to the role.

The actress will star alongside Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Anthony Hopkins (Odin), Natalie Portman (Jane Foster), Stuart Townsend (Fandral), Tadanobu Asano (Hogun) and Ray Stevenson (Volstagg). Kenneth Branagh will direct the film, which will be released on May 20, 2011.

"Thor" is one of a continuing slate of films being produced by Marvel Studios based on the Marvel characters, including "Iron Man 2" on May 7, 2010, "The First Avenger: Captain America" on July 22, 2011 and "The Avengers" on May 4, 2012.

she's so lovely. She would make a great goddess!

But hold up... I forget.. If that's Thor's step mom who is his biological mother? Is it Gaea?

@DarthMulder

i believe Gaea is Thor biological mother. Gaea used a different name "Jord". heres some links of her story.

Hmmmm, i loved them titties in The Thomas Crown Affair. I still think Odin was miscast. I mean how the hell is Anthony Hopkins supposed to be able to kick Chris Helmsworths' ass???

Stellan Skarsgard was a far better choice IMO...

lol @ Talontd: Because Odin is the King baby, and the first in power. He's got all of Thor's power plus ten times more!

@DarthMulder

Haha!! I know, it's just....i dunno kno. I can't really imagine Hopkins as the personification of that power. Odin should be somewhat imposing, shouldn't he?? Short and pudgy Hopkins just doesn't do that for me, lol.

oh yea, before everyone starts with the flames, in no way is that a crack against his acting talent....he is a fantastic actor....i just think Skarsgård who is already part of the cast mind you, would've been better in the role.

but hell, if i had my way Thor & Odin would've been played by Alexander & Stellan Skarsgård, so wtf do i kno!!!!!

@Hinkley... I agree with you. A great script is one thing, but you HAVE TO HAVE good actors or a movie won't work either. The combo of great script/cast in Iron Man, TDK, etc. is what made those movies great!

There have been too many CBM's made with sh!tty acting... hopefully movies like this will continue to be made and legitimize the genre to the rest of the public!

@ Talontd: Dude! They are planning to put the entire Asgardian cast including Hemsworth in prosthetic muscles! Didn't you know that? Remember a few months back when they did that casting call for tall men to be in Thor? It said "must be comfortable with wearing prosthetics".

They will put Hopkins in a suit that will make him LOOK tall and strong. I bet it will work out just fine.
