THOR: THE DARK WORLD Concept Art Reveals Comic Accurate And Much Cooler Alternate Versions Of Malekith

Marvel Studios has a stellar track record but many fans agree that they stumbled somewhat with Thor: The Dark World back in 2013. Despite that, the Alan Taylor helmed sequel has a score of 66% on Rotten Tomatoes and it grossed over $644 million at the worldwide box office.

Regardless of whether you loved or hated the movie, we're now taking a look at some of the artwork which was used to bring Asgard and its many inhabitants to life after Kenneth Branagh's first instalment (mostly) kept things grounded here on Midgard.

In this latest round of concept art from The Dark World, we take a look at the villain played by Christopher Eccleston: Malekith the Accursed. The actor hated his time working on the Marvel Studios release and much of that is down to the make-up he was forced to wear (which took ages and looked, well, rubbish). However, he could have looked so much better based on this artwork!

@Kevwebsz - You can't tell me they didn't model this one after King Diamond.

@Kevwebsz - that’s exactly the one I would repost. Just need elf ears cause he’s an elf! But that look is spot on. Give me the grin and we are winning. Such an amazing character and instead we got a piece of cardboard. 😑

@Kevwebsz - Imagine if they had given Malekith a personality? That would've been amazing.

Thor the dark world is the only MCU movie I absolutely hate. I don't think the film itself is awful per say, but it's so mediocre and heartless. I'd love for Jason Aaron to go back in time and switch out the films script his own and for a bit of care to have been added to the film.

and from all the awesome design they decide to use the only boring and generic. did the want the design to match his personality on the film?

Literally Aaaaany of those except what we got what have been amazing especially the one kevwebsz shared above.
Would have been amazing to have had malekeith a sorcerer like he is the comics.
And have the story build elements that were used in the third movie.
Have svartleheim a prospering civilization that uses both tech and magic but is more magic heavy and mystical in its architecture. Bor in the old days saw them as a threat and wiped them out during their earlier fit of conquest. But we're not told that story, we're told that asgard was retrieving the reality stone from a radical dark elf who was seeking to over throw dark elf leadership and lay vengeance upon those who committed the genocide of his people.
This will build the idea in third movie that asgard royalty were aggressors and conqueres, something Thor wanted to move beyond. A trait that Odin wanted to move beyond and when he saw that aggression and lust in Thor in the first movie he cast him out.
Thor 4 could build further upon that theme by introducing Mangog.
