With Iron Man 3 getting the most attention lately as its release date nears, we haven’t heard much about Marvel’s other 2013 Phase Two installment, Thor: The Dark World. Thespian Tom Hiddleston spoke to Red Carpet News TV during the South Bank Sky Arts Awards and teased the sequel’s new villain, Malekith played by Christopher Eccleston. Praising his co-star, Hiddleston explains, carefully not to spoil, his God of Mischief’s relationship to the Dark Elf ruler. Video & transcription below!

“Christopher Eccleston is one of Britain's greatest actors, he brings a degree of commitment, intelligence, conviction and complexity to everything he does. I think he really got his teeth into this thing [playing Malekith]. It's hard to say anything without giving away too much. Christopher has enormous presence, which is very distinguishable on stage as well as film. It's one of those things you can't really define, you just can't stop watching him when he's on screen. I think he'll be absolutely magnetic [in the movie]. Malekith has his own ambition. Whether or not Loki can coincide with or contradict, subvert or enhance that ambition remains to be seen.”

Marvel Studios’ “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all. Starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano and Jaimie Alexander with Rene Russo & Anthony Hopkins as Odin, “Thor: The Dark World” is directed by Alan Taylor, produced by Kevin Feige, from a story by Don Payne (credit not final) and screenplay by Christopher Yost and Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (credit not final) and is based on Marvel’s classic Super Hero Thor, who first appeared in the comic book “Journey into Mystery” #83 in August, 1962. “Thor: The Dark World” is presented by Marvel Studios. The executive producers are Louis D’Esposito, Alan Fine, Stan Lee, Victoria Alonso, Craig Kyle and Nigel Gostelow. The film releases November 8, 2013, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios.

This will be an awesome movie. Even more awesome than the first one. People seem to forget most didn't think Thor would make any money or would be well received by anyone. It's amazing it worked at all. Yes, the humor is sometimes a bit silly on Earth but the Asgardian scenes were fantastic.

Sad they decided to cut a lot of the Asgard scenes. I could have given them a good list to cut out some of the Earth scenes.

thor was a good movie,it did suffer quite a bit with some of the earth scenes but the stuff on asgard & jotunheim were really good.

thor the dark world is gonna be better than the first & that's what we want, films to get better with each sequel.

I'd like to imagine Hulk doing that to that stupid bear Seth McFarlane made...

Also, at least in the storyboard picture, Hogun has a fu manchu beard going. Hopefully he'll have it in the actual film, it'll make him look closer to his comic book representation, which is that of a Mongol warrior.

I am looking forward to Thor 2: The Dark World as one of my most anticipated films of the Phase 2 movie-verse. Eccleston was awesome for his brief bit on Doctor Who. I think he'll be just fine as Malekith, here's hoping anyway.

Malekith and Mandarin and Winter Soldier and I assume Thanos for GOTG... Pretty great villain line up, I hope they make the masters of evil with a little help from Loki, and maybe crossbones because he's in Captain America 2 as well

i think marvel cast their villains even BETTER than they do their heroes. i think chris E. will OWN malekith as much if not more as tom H did his loki. i'm glad the deal with mads didn't happen. he'd better suit other roles, but malekith's tailor-made for eccleston.
