HOLLYWOOD, CA (August 3, 2011) – Worldwide box office receipts for TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON, have hit $1 billion, Paramount Pictures announced today. To date, the third installment of the hit Transformers franchise, and the first shot in 3-D, has grossed $338 million in U.S. (through Monday) and $663 million internationally (through Tuesday).

"TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON is the first billion dollar grossing movie in the history of Paramount Pictures, marking a substantial milestone in the 99 year life of this legendary studio," said Brad Grey, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of Paramount Pictures. "We are grateful for the extraordinary work of Michael Bay and his film-making team, executive producer Steven Spielberg, and everyone at Paramount around the globe who played a part in helping make this latest TRANSFORMERS one of the 10 highest grossing films worldwide of all time."

Earlier this summer, Paramount was the first studio to reach $1 billion in domestic grosses, aided by the $180.7 million opening of TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON over the July 4th holiday. This is the fifth year in a row that Paramount has reached the milestone before any other studio. Paramount Pictures International crossed the $2 billion mark on July 30th, making it the first for any studio this year to reach the benchmark. The studio has had six consecutive movies earning over $100 million at the domestic box office in 2011.

TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON is directed by Michael Bay, written by Ehren Kruger and produced by Don Murphy & Tom DeSanto, Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Ian Bryce. The executive producers are Steven Spielberg, Michael Bay, Brian Goldner and Mark Vahradian. When a mysterious event from Earth’s past erupts into the present day it threatens to bring a war to Earth so big that the Transformers alone will not be able to save us. The movie stars Shia LaBeouf, Josh Duhamel, John Turturro, Tyrese Gibson, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Patrick Dempsey, Kevin Dunn, Julie White with John Malkovich and Frances McDormand.

Over rated? By whom? I haven't seen it but if anything makes a billion bucks then exactly who is over rating it? 2 hours of mindless fun and explosions sounds like a pretty good "pop corn" movie" to me. Some people love to hate anything thats popular, I spose they're cool.

Haha well there you go, this piece of shit, makes $1 billion and Green Lantern (While not perfect, but a better film) makes much less. And yet this film hasn't been universally panned, trendy to hate GL I suppose.

I saw this about a few weeks ago, I'm not surprised it made this much dough.
I, for one, however am done with transformers, I'm tired of the mindless action and flat characters, glad it was last, it was becoming tiresome. No doubt they'll reboot it or something, maybe people will still enjoy it, and good for them, but count me out.

Why is it that if a movie isn't high art then it gets bashed beyond belief. Not all movies are Oscar. Mikey Bay will NEVER win an Oscar and we know this. This movie is marketed as fun not as competition for Black Swan and the like. Lighten the f^#& up its not your money it is being made with that is at risk. If people hate it they won't go see it but they do. If you knew a formula for a movie was make s&^% loads of money why would you change it? I hate my job most days but I still go.

Seems the only good thing this movie had going for it was its advertising campaign that pulled in all the suckers to watch this absolute piece of crap, me included im embarrassed to admit, it will be the last time I ever pay to see a Michael Bay movie.

This movie had a horrible horrible plot, script, acting, the action sequences where incomprehensible, cgi was a blur, Bumblebee still cant talk, Optimus was nowhere to be seen for 95% of it, Ratchet resparked my interest for 30 seconds only to be disintergrated to make room for more scenes with the TV drama series actors.

Fracken mess of a movie. 3 billion dollars, i think im going to be sick.

Green Lantern still has'nt been released in South America, Australia, portugal, Norway, Netherlands and a few other countries until mid August and was just released in many other countries only 3 days ago, so wait a while, it can still make the list.

I bet all of you that are hating were first in line on opening day, and again will be first in line if a fourth is released.
Like if the Transformers cartoons are a work of art. Try watching any episode of Gen 1 and lets see how far you get before turning it off.

Not at all, it just means that you love a really bad movie. I can actually prove it. I can rationalize and explain that shit with frackin pie charts like a mofo scientist god dammit!:)

I am not ashamed to say i really liked this film! It will never win oscars or be praised for it's solid acting cast but sometimes that doesnt matter because all you want to do is kick back and watch stuff blow up!!

I'm glad it has done so well, it deserves all the praise it's getting! By the time I saw it last month it was by the far the best blockbuster/popcorn muncher of the summer for me. Which means it fit into that proverbial action/visual effects heavy movie category that is usually filled once a season by something at the movie theaters.
