POSSIBLE SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT

The short and spoiler-free review is that Transformers: Dark of the Moon is a good movie, nothing special, its plain and simple a nice watch.

Before you continue reading my review I have to say, I am an 80's kid so I pretty much grew up on Transformers and G.I.Joe, and I have to say also that I am one of the firsts who embraced the changes and updates they made on these franchises. What I am saying is that I like how they adapted these cartoons/toys into summer blockbuster movies; I know many out there who hate these drastic changes to these beloved characters. Therefore, if you are one of those who did not like the aesthetic changes then this movie will not really change your mind, but if you are like me then there is a chance that you will enjoy this movie.

Transformers: The Dark of the Moon is a Michael Bay movie, expecting it to be something else will just disappoint you. So, have that kind of mindset going into theaters then you will be good. Expect explosion, but to be honest I think he kind of dialed it down here a little, in fact most of his trademark quirks were a bit lite on this one, slo-mo walking and cheesecake shots (ah... no the cheesecake shot is still there I'll tell you more about that later), even with that said it is still pretty much all "Bay".

To answer first what many of you might be asking, what happened to Megan Fox's character? Well, they just went with the "she dumped him tale" which is a bit hard pill to swallow considering how much the two main characters have gone through for each other in the two previous installments. Though the filmmakers tried to let you forget about Fox's by introducing the new character, Carly, with a glorious "ass-shot" that ten second bit would have made the movie for a lot of you guys, but then you actually see her then you wish for the days when Megan was sitting on that hog with her daisy dukes, and that other time she was fixing Bumblebee. However, Rosie Huntington, just like most of this movie, was an OK replacement for the lead female role.

The other actors came off as if they are just tired of this franchise, and it show in their acting that this movie is very much a chore for them. In addition, there is really not much of a character development for all, humans and robots alike. Then the new characters are nothing but caricatures, goes for both humans and robots also.

What bugs me also is how Optimus acted in one of the final scene when he killed an already beaten opponent, by shooting him at point blank. That does not come of as an honorable warrior.

There is nothing new for this franchise, we see a snake-like shockwave but he is just feeling the role of Devastator in the last movie. We see Optimus with his Jetpack again, well… yehey? Ok next. The twins are gone but replaced by Jamaican autobots? Moreover, the robot transformations, which is still good to look out but is starting to feel like familiar territory.

The first part of the movie I believe was well structured, I like that they continue on the route of this autobots being black-op operatives, which I think really fits their design, but from there it started to drag a little. Though the action did picked-up later on, the fights look great as usual, and seeing giant robots beat the heck out each other is as if the movie screen is tapping from your brain.

What I have to say about this franchise is this, the first one was magical, the second one was a bit of a letdown, and this third one is a mediocre OK. Nevertheless, I still will not advice you to not watch this movie.

I thought it was going to be like that, thanks for confirming my thoughts Pollmaster, slightly better than the last one, doesnt even touch the first one. Im glad this is the end of the Bayformers franchise. But I hope they take a while before launching a Transformers reboot

And the whole Megan Fox randomly dumping him, me and my friend were afraid of that. [frick]ing stupid after all the shit they went through in the last two movies

I will probably still go see it, but I will continue to keep my expectations at nothing special. It will just be a movie to waste a couple of hours. Looking forward to the Rosie ass shot lol

Man people are gonna hate and love this movie just as much as they hated and loved the last two. There is gonna be a bunch of people who simply gonna hate on this for not being the 1980's and a whole bunch of people who will love this for being the basics of what they want from a Transformers film.

As far as I'm concerned, it's a film based on a nonsensical TOY range, all I expect from it is a story to follow a lot of action scenes involving Robots hitting each other and that's it! Transformers is the epitome of the 'Dumb Summer Popcorn Movie', Action and Entertainment with very little brain work involved! If you go in expecting more from these films, then you're setting yourself up for a huge disappointment like most of the average critics! TOYS! It's a presentation that spawned from a bunch of TOYS!

@dancingmonkey08 - So you reckon people stay together no matter what once they've been through a couple of life and death situations? Well you must be younger than the kid you just slated off. There've been couples that have survived world wars in the past, had 6 or 7 children and spent 30-40 years together and still broken up later, why? BECAUSE THAT'S LIFE! People grow apart despite what they've been through, it's a reality not something made up for the movies.

Pssh, this movie was amazing. For me it tops every summer blockbuster I've seen and had been anticipating so far. It totally redeemed the second movie and helps me to swallow the excuse that it was the writer's strike that hurt it, because this last one was great. It fulfilled what I wanted to see as a summer blockbuster and something worth making 300 or 400 million in return. If anything I felt sad at the thought that this is possibly the last one, or definitely is. The humor didn't seem misplaced or over the top except for a couple points and the new leading girl didn't get in the way. They scaled back on a lot of mistakes that were made in the second one and they had the some of the most exciting final fights ever. The movie was almost three hours and not once did I feel like it was dragging on or that I was getting tired of what I was seeing of the story. Good stuff, go see it!

Well sorrry, jeez, I was just pointing out they made it this big thing in the first two movies of their love story and then she randomly breaks up with him offscreen. So potential screen time could have been devoted to the actual Transformers rather than the pointless love story. You are 100% right that love doesnt last forever and it is more realistic if they broke up, its just the way they go about it in Transformers 3 sounds terrible

And please dont compare me to that kid above, Im 22, at least I dont go around calling Transformers 3 one of the best movies ever which by the sounds of it, it is far from. And before you say anything, Im not a hater of the TF movies, I loved the 1st one. Its just that they become the same thing over and over again
JULES
JULES - 6/29/2011, 5:00 AM
I love the chart but have to disagree. I went to see it last night and I didn't expect much. I hated ROTF and was expecting more of the same. After viewing it I can say TF3 is arguably the definitive summer blockbuster. I went with a group of 11 and we all left with our minds officially blown.
In some respects TF3 is like ROTF in terms of action; however, it feels more intense. I am thinking this is because Sh*t gets real and humans start dying everywhere. The story is still a Bay story like ROTF but more "under control" also the stupid humor from ROTF is very rarely seen (There are still some hammy moments).

TF3 is a great summer movie filled with Bay-plosions and Bay-isms. Still I feel its the sum of all the strengths of the previous 2 movies with a few of the weakness. Its the best of the series in my opinion.

@Negrodamus84 - That's it, this doesn't attempt to NOT be a Bay film just to please anyone after the 2nd flick. It's every bit a Michael Bay movie but its a highly entertaining and spectacular Michael Bay movie. What it does is rectify what the 2nd film should have been in relation to the first, same ingredients but even more mind-blowing! That's why I stand by my initial review a few days ago when I said if you liked the first one then this movie will entertain you. If you don't like any aspect of the first two films then stay away and watch the event of the summer from a distance!

Would you rather have a movie with good acting but poor action, or a movie with ok acting but will literally raise your pulse and make you say "wow"? In a perfect world we can have both, but apparently not this summer. I'm personally would rather have the pulse-raising movie, especially in a big-budget summer blockbuster... and ESPECIALLY at $13+ a ticket. In that way, Transformers was WAY better than Thor, X-Men and GL. Its in a totally different league.

IMHO, if you judge movies based on just Acting, Direction, and Script then the best movie ever would probably be The Godfather Part 2. At the same time, if you go into a CBM or Transformers expecting/wanting to see Godfather then the problem is with you, not the movie.

Anyone else think this movie really pushed the limits on the PG-13 rating...?

This movie was wicked! Amazing special effects, fight scenes, the Wingmen scene was outstanding in 3D, the interstate chase, and the opening scene on Cybertron. Holy sh*t. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around all of it..

Weird little tid-bit... The theatre i went to, 2d showings sold out several hours before 3d showings. In fact, the girl that sold us the tickets said that after the 2d sold out, a lot of people still refused to see 3d. They said they'd rather wait.
