The Walking Dead and Teen Titans GO! star Khary Payton voices Guardians of the Globe member Black Samson in Invincible, and he's now confirmed that work is already underway on season 3.
Prime Video renewed the popular animated adaptation of Robert Kirkman's comic book series for an additional two seasons some time ago, though it's been a while since we've had any updates. That's not necessarily cause for concern, but an indication of how long these shows actually take to make!
"We finished Season 2, we're on to Season 3," Payton confirmed in a recent interview with The Movie Dweeb. "But, it's so hard to say right now. There was a glut of animation studios just trying to get so much done, and literally, it was like projects sitting there with a backpack full of, you know, material being like 'anytime you're ready.' You know what I mean?"
"But there was literally a line for the really great studios to just get this work out. So, I honestly can't tell you. I am dying to...I am so glad they greenlit [Seasons] 2 and 3 at the same time," the actor continued. "That means that when three comes out, it'll feel like just next season and not like a lifetime."
"But, yeah, it's gonna take a while. I wish I could say otherwise. But I've done enough animation to know that...to get it right, you're drawing every panel, you know?"
We're guessing season 2 of Invincible could debut sometime in 2023, with the third season following in 2024. If we're lucky, Prime Video will make a decision about the show's future before then, putting the Image Comics adaptation on track to start streaming on something close to a yearly basis.
