Amazon Prime finally announced an official premiere date for season 3 of The Boys yesterday (we're still waiting on that first trailer), and a couple of new images have now been shared on Twitter.
The first gives us another looks at Supernatural alum Jensen Ackles as the world's first "supe," Soldier Boy. Though the character does appear in the comic books, this take on Soldier Boy is expected to be quite a bit different. He will still be the leader of the group known as Payback, but here they'll be active in the 1940s during World War II. It's not clear if the patriotic supe will also show up in present day, but it does seem likely.
Ackles joins fellow new faces Laurie Holden as the Crimson Countess, Nick Wechsler as Blue Hawk, Sean Patrick Flannery as Gunpowder, and Miles Gaston Villanueva as Supersonic.
Jack Quaid also shared a new shot of Hughie and Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) striking a pose.
Season 2 of The Boys ended with the death of Butcher's wife and the apparent disbanding of the team. We know they will reunite, however, most likely in attempt to bring down the increasingly psychotic Homelander. Queen Maeve was able to blackmail her rage-fuelled leader into backing off in the finale, but actor Anthony Starr has already confirmed that he will really let loose in Season 3.
It's also been confirmed that the highly controversial Herogasm comic book arc will be adapted, and showrunner Eric Kripke has hinted that the episode will be every bit as depraved as the comic.
The Boys returns for its third season on June 3.
