Season 3 of The Boys has now come to an end, with an eventful finale that (somewhat predictably) set the stage for season 4 while delivering its share of shocking moments, including one main character death.

Following the twist ending of last week's penultimate episode, Butcher, Hughie and Soldier Boy set off to bring Homelander down for good, while MM and Starlight devise a scheme of their own as they attempt to ensure Soldier Boy doesn't go nuclear again and wipe out the entire city block (or worse). Frenchie and a now re-powered Kimiko also join the fray, and the gang gets another unlikely ally in the form of Queen Maeve.

Will their combined efforts be enough to defeat the maniacal leader of The Seven? It might have been if everything went according to plan.

After the big reveal that Homelander is actually Soldier Boy's biological son, it was generally assumed that the "patriotic" Supe would betray Butcher and join forces with his own flesh and blood. However, the ruthless Soldier Boy is still prepared to take Homelander down... until Billy realizes that Becca's son, Ryan, is also in the crosshairs.

Butcher then faces-off with Soldier Boy, while Maeve unleashes her full might on Homelander and almost manages to best him until he gouges her eye out! As the crew joins forces and attempts to incapacitate Soldier Boy with Frenchie's nerve gas, he begins to power-up, and Maeve seemingly sacrifices herself to prevent the loss of innocent life by charging him right through the window before he goes nova.

We later learn that Maeve survived, but is now de-powered after her exposure to Soldier Boy's beam. Black Noir isn't so lucky, though, as Homelander brutally murders his teammate by puching a hole right through him after learning that he knew Soldier Boy was his father all along.

All-in-all, a relatively happy ending for the good guys - aside from Butcher, who is told he's living on borrowed time after overdosing on V-24. Billy decides not to share the news with the others, as the team - which now officially includes Starlight Annie January - sets its sights on new Presidential candidate Victoria Neuman!

The season does conclude on a sinister note, however. After being heckled, Homelander kills a protestor in front of hundreds of people as a smile spreads across Ryan's face. It looks like the crew now has a mini-Homelander to contend with.

What did you guys make of the season 3 finale of The Boys? Did it live up to your expectations? Drop us a comment down below.

What kind of deal with the devil do I have to make to not have to wait a whole year for season 4?

@Fares - just get a medically induced coma like us normal people.

@Fares - Hopefully it is only a year. It was 2 years between season 2 and 3

@Origame - I'm sure I can figure out a cheaper way without medical intervention.

@tugboy - I got a feelin that that was more of a covid thing, or at least I hope so. It'll be hell to wait a couple of years.

Hope Soldier Boy isn't locked up for long, the character was too much fun to waste as a one-season character. Dude needs his own arc and all.

Did NOT expect them to lean so heavily into the Trump allusions with Homelander after already touching on it well with the Stormfront stuff this season, but that final scene was just further evidence of how eerily our real world has served up an embarrassing amount of irresistible low hanging fruit for this show's writers

I continue to be a bit disappointed with how hit or miss the actual superhero fights in this show seem to be 3 seasons in, but this episode was probably where they had their best moments of capturing the feeling of superheroes fighting each other. Definitely suffered from the typical hyperconveniences that most of the show's season finales had, but this one felt the most widely consiquential, which was great. I only read some of the comics but from what I understand, that's not supposed to be Black Noir's fate, so VERY interested in how they handle that when things ultimately go code red with Homelander, which the ending seems to be directly pointing towards (maybe that's where Ryan comes into play)

All in all, I think this was my favorite season. Great writing, GREAT acting, and probably the best action the show's had yet

How Butcher did Ryan and the path he has now pushed him toward is frustrating. Butcher is such an aggravating yet interesting character.
