Fear the Walking Dead is executive produced by Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero, David Alpert and showrunner David Erickson and produced by AMC Studios. Co-Executive Producer Adam Davidson, who directed the pilot, is also directing the second and third episodes. The series’ first season, consisting of six one-hour episodes, will premiere on AMC in late summer. "‘Fear the Walking Dead’ takes us back to the earlier, more dangerous, more terrifying days of ‘The Walking Dead,’" said Kirkman in a press release. "A time when danger was lurking around every corner and the thing mostly likely to get you killed was your own ignorance of the rapidly changing world around you. The stakes are going to be higher and the ride more intense. We're going to show people all the insanity of civilization crumbling that Rick Grimes slept through. Buckle up."

"I could not be more thrilled to be continuing on this apocalyptic journey, dramatizing the horrific disintegration of society through the lens of a dysfunctional family. We've assembled a stellar cast and crew to tell our story -- it's going to be a great ride," added David Erickson.

Fear the Walking Dead, which is set in Los Angeles and focuses on new characters and storylines, stars Kim Dickens (Gone Girl) as Madison, Cliff Curtis (Gang Related) as Travis, Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) as Nick and Alycia Debnam-Carey (Into the Storm) as Alicia. Also joining the cast as series regulars are Elizabeth Rodriguez (Orange is the New Black) as Liza and Mercedes Mason (Quarantine 2: Terminal) as Ofelia. Check out the new production video below.

It always annoyed me how the characters never went to the big empty cities, I would be there 24/7!

Just out of curiosity, is there anyone who would like 'The Walking Dead' to end with Rick waking up back in hospital and it was all a dream?

@elnewbury

Not really. It would be a weird and anticlimactic way to end an awesomely tense series. If the show goes on for another five seasons and becomes something of a parody of itself, where the melodrama becomes overwrought and laughable, then maybe that would be an interesting way to drop the mic.

But in general, no. The show isn't Newhart.

they really need the main show "back on track" before they worry about a spinoff.

I think this would work better as a dedicated season, after a huge cliff hanger than its own show. Part of what makes it awesome is being in the dark, just like Rick, on how this came to be.

"‘Fear the Walking Dead’ takes us back to the earlier, more dangerous, more terrifying days of ‘The Walking Dead,’" said Kirkman in a press release.

----

So essentially this means the following about the current walking dead;
- Not as dangerous
- Not as terrifying

I just dont get why they dont make several shows all based during the initial outbreak. Make it a series where we follow a group for three episodes then reset to the beginning of the outbreak and follow another group. You could then kill off characters, introduce new characters and change up the stakes every few episodes.

@Spock0clock, you say it as if The Walking Dead didn't turn awfully melodramatic and dull seasons ago.
