Readers that are up to date with The Walking Dead comic series (which should be everyone reading this unless you want spoilers) are aware that leading man Rick Grimes is circling his deathbed after the events of the most recent issue.

Rick has been shot in the chest quite near his heart, and it doesn't seem as if he's going to be pulling out of this one. Now, while this wouldn't be the first time The Walking Dead has led readers to believe one thing while actually planning to kill off another character, the fact that Image Comics is releasing a blank Variant cover option for this must mean it does have high importance.

As you can see from his following tweet, writer Robert Kirkman himself took to social media to ensure that fans are aware of exactly how important issue #192 is to the series.

If this is the final issue for the fans-favorite character who has led the series from day 1, having a Blank Variant will allow them to draw whatever they like to immortalize the importance of it.

But what do you think? Has the comic version of Rick Grimes finally met his demise, or is this just a red herring for whatever awaits fans in the upcoming issue #200? Let us know your opinion below, and catch the trailer for the latest season of The Walking Dead on AMC.

The Walking Dead is an American post-apocalyptic survival series featuring a large ensemble cast of survivors of the zombie apocalypse, trying to stay alive from the near-constant threat of attacks from the mindless zombies, colloqially known as walkers. However, with the fall of humanity these survivors also face conflict from other living survivors who have formed groups and communities with their own sets of laws and morals, often leading to hostile conflict between the human communities.

The Walking Dead airs on AMC on Sunday nights at 9.

Seriously the show and comic need to end at some point, there is only so much you can do with a zombie story and from what I can tell both have become extremely repetitive

@Saga - Seriously pretty sure the creator said he was originally going to end it when they got to the safe zone......probably would have been for the best

I've been enjoying the Commonwealth run, kind of evolved the comic with there being a definitive area with a real community.

You know I’ve been collecting the comic since issues 40. I am planning on stopping at issue 201. It’s gotten really boring for the last few years.
