THE WALKING DEAD Tops EW's Most Shocking TV Moments Of 2014

EW have posted their top 40 most shocking television moments of the year, and right at the top of the list is a particularly sickening scene from the "Strangers" ep of The Walking Dead. Game Of Thrones, Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D & Arrow also made the cut.

Unsurprisingly enough, the scene in which Gareth (Andrew J. West) chows down on Bob's (Lawrence Gilliard Jr.) leg in the closing moments of The Walking Dead's second season 5 ep, "Strangers", tops Entertainment Weekly's 40 most shocking TV moments of 2014. Sure, all signs pointed to the Terminus folk being cannibals, and fans might have expected something like this after a similar fate befell a different character (Dale) in the comics -- but actually seeing Gareth bite into Bob's leg and announce that he tasted "much better" than he thought he would crossed into some pretty f*cked up territory. Oops, I'd better watch my language...AMC don't like cursing.

In second place (also not too surprisingly) is Prince Prince Oberyn Martell's (Pedro Pascal) gruesome death at the hands of The Mountain (Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson) in the eight season 4 ep of Game Of Thrones. Once again, anyone who had read the source novels obviously knew what was coming when Oberyn began to toy with the fallen behemoth, but I expected it and I was still shocked by the sheer brutality of how his demise was depicted on screen. "And I smashed her head in....like THIS!".

Oliver Queen's (Stephen Amell) "death" at the hands of Ra's al Ghul (Matt Nable) in the season 3 finale of Arrow came in at #12, and Skye's (Chloe Bennet) Inhuman reveal from the midseason finale of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D made the #30 spot. Click the link below to find out what scenes from the likes of Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, Orphan Black and The Strain are also featured.

Have to agree with @ Kurne. I was really disappointed with the SOA finale.

Arrow fight was a MID season finale, not the season 3 finale.

on TWD it showed last season they were cannibals if you payed close attention, It shouldn't count as a shocker for this year.
In the final episode of season four the episode was simply called "A", once the shit hit the fan and everyone started running through terminus they ran through a clearly marked "yard A" in which the courtyard was littered with skeletal corpes that were picked clean of meat.
It was a quick shot, but it was there!

SOA was weak shit.
I realize they are biker outlaws & that show asks you to root for the bad guys but everyone is a piece of shit on that show.
Not most of the cops & children but the main cast really.
Spoilers: Jax is a loser for killing the old cop,his creepy mom & then himself. What a bitch. Too soft & pretty for prison,at least Juice went out like a man..even if he took it like a woman a few times. Yowch!

Walking Dead is best show on that list.

too soft for prison?
they had a universal mayhem vote on him. He was a dead man and it made him that much swifter in finishing his affairs.

Wasn't just the end of SOA I didn't like, the whole show never did much for me. Took itself far too seriously for what it was: a pretentious, silly overly-sombre biker take on Hamlet complete with laughably intense bromances and OTT A-team style shootouts and car chases. Plus, you thunk Charlie Humman could maybe attempt to master an American accent at some point in his career? I mean he's only played the damn character for 7 bloody seasons!

loved that episode of TWD but that Viper vs. The Mountain fight on Game of Thrones scarred me. I can still hear Ellaria's scream.

The GoT one was way more shocking.

About the leg, Hannibal did it first.. and with more class..

And yes, Oliver getting executed by Ra's was more shocking than that leg scene too.

TWD's throat slitting trough scene was shocking. Personally found that more so than the cannibal scene.

A bearded dragqueen winning the Eurovision Song Contest didnt even made it into the list? Well... after a second thought, that wasnt perhaps much of a shock.
I see more shocking moments in each episode of Adventure Time, than in all of this list combined. That show is one trippy nightmare.

Ugh, another failure article from "RorMachine". Look at the article guys, this EW 'top 40' isn't a ranked list. These are just 2 of the 40 most shocking TV moments this year. EW isn't ranking one over the other.

It sucks there was not one mention of any Hannibal moments from that list.

I thought the mid-season finale of The Walking Dead was by far the most shocking tv moment this year.
