Apple TV has debuted the first official teaser trailer for Cape Fear, an upcoming limited series inspired by Martin Scorsese's 1991 film of the same name and starring Javier Bardem (Skyfall; No Country for Old Men; F1: The Movie), Amy Adams (Arrival; Enchanted; The Fighter), and Patrick Wilson (AquamanWatchmen; Insidious).

As per the synopsis, "a storm is coming for happily married attorneys Anna (Amy Adams) and Tom Bowden (Patrick Wilson) when Max Cady (Javier Bardem), the notorious killer they are responsible for putting behind bars, is let out of prison — and he wants vengeance."

The story is based on John D. MacDonald's 1957 novel The Executioners. Over the years, the novel has been adapted into two films, one from J. Lee Thompson in 1962 starring Gregory Peck, Robert Mitchum, and Polly Bergan, and another from Scorsese in 1991 starring Robert De Niro, Nick Nolte, and Jessica Lange. De Niro's portrayal of Max Cady earned him his sixth Oscar nomination. The new miniseries is said to draw inspiration from both the original novel and the 1991 classic, while also taking things in a chilling new direction.

The cast features Academy Award-winner Javier Bardem, 6x Academy Award-nominee Amy Adams, Patrick Wilson, and CCH Pounder in main roles, while recurring cast members include Jullian Dulce Vida, Anna Baryshnikov, Jamie Hector, Margarita Levieva, Lily Collias, Joe Anders, Malia Pyles, Samantha Clifford, Ron Perlman, Ted Levine, and Patrick Fischler.

Academy Award-nominee Morten Tyldum helmed the pilot, while additional directors on the series are S.J. Clarkson, Amanda Marsalis, Reed Morano, Steven Piet, Trey Shults, Jon S. Baird, Stephen Williams, and Jonathan van Tulleken.

Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese are attached as executive producers.

Cape Fear premieres June 5!

Watch the official teaser trailer below:

Inspired by the 1991 remake directed by Martin Scorsese and produced by Steven Spielberg, a storm is coming for happily married attorneys Anna (Amy Adams) and Tom Bowden (Patrick Wilson) when Max Cady (Javier Bardem), the notorious killer they are responsible for putting behind bars, is let out of prison — and he wants vengeance.

Hailing from UCP (a division of Universal Studio Group) and Amblin Television, “Cape Fear” is based on both the novel “The Executioners,” which inspired Gregory Peck’s Universal Pictures feature, “Cape Fear” (1962), as well as the acclaimed 1991 remake directed by Scorsese. The series is executive produced by Spielberg, who produced the 1991 film, alongside Scorsese. Creator Antosca showruns and produces alongside Alex Hedlund for Eat the Cat, and Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey produce alongside Spielberg for Amblin Television. Academy Award nominee Morten Tyldum will direct the pilot and serve as executive producer. The series is developed and produced through Antosca’s overall deal at UCP, where he’s been based since 2017.

I enjoyed Frank Miller's work on the Cape Fear comics back in the 80s.

@ModernAudience - and you got me to literally lol.

Had to set some fresh bait out there. Can't stand when they run articles on movies that have nothing to do with comics.

Nice teaser , I liked the editing of it tbh!!

Amy Adams’s southern accent threw me off at the beginning but I liked the mood of the trailer and Javier Bardem looks especially crazy in the role with his green eyes & such.

Anyway , it could be good so looking forward to checking this series’s out.

The original is a classic. Nolte and DeNiro are both excellent!

I’ll check this out and watch Ocean Master and Lois Lane fight Anton Chigurh.

Bardem, especially with his imposing figure, looks like a he's a good blend between the Mitchum and De Niro iterations of Max Cady.

I can't be the only one bored by the idea of this remake of a remake, right? Saw the original one with Peck and Mitchum, saw the remake with Nolte and DeNiro, and have sat through countless "obsessive psycho harasses innocent people" movies, which was a whole subgenre in the 90s (Single White Female, Unlawful Entry, Pacific Heights, The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, Fear, The Fan, The Temp, etc).

I imagine they'll introduce a few new elements here, but what in the world justifies blowing up such a basic premise, which can be tightly executed in two hours, up to miniseries length? Good cast (other than bland-ass Patricj Wilson), but we know the story, we know the tropes, so why? Apple already flogged a dead horse by turning Presumed Innocent into a miniseries, is this really what they want to blow their budget on?
