In recent years, Nicolas Cage has been exercising his talent for more challenging and unique roles, building his filmography as one of the most diverse to ever hit the screen (Mandy, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent etc.). Once again, he is taking on a character that is bound to make waves in the industry, portraying one of the most controversial entertainment figures in years, Joe Exotic.

According to Variety, Nicolas Cage has signed on to pay Tiger King's Joe Exotic in a new scripted iteration of Exotic's life story. Showrun by American Vandal's Dan Lagana, the series will be produced by CBS Television Studios, and will be shopped to networks within the following weeks.

This is a very exciting move for Cage, who really has not been seen in a high-profile release since Kick-Ass, nonetheless as a regular on a television series. This casting is a super inspired decision from both parties, guaranteeing a powerhouse performance in the form of such a dynamic character. The hype and viewership behind Netflix's Tiger King, racking in nearly 35 million viewers in its first 10 days, will no doubt make the series a huge success.

Will you be tuning in for Nicholas Cage's Joe Exotic?

@StrangeBlackPantherDoctor -

Seriously, I do not understand why tf this is newsworthy on a website based on comic books, comic book movies and everything related to the two topics.

@StrangeBlackPantherDoctor - Lmao 90% of the visitors on this site havent even read a single comic book.

And if they posted only CBM related articles, half the content of this site would be gone.

You could also make the argument that since Cage has been in comic book properties, that his casting in a new movie is relevant to this site.

This is the first time Tiger Kkng has been made I to an article on this site. It was cool when we in the comments sometimes discussed it but that should.be it. This is comicbookmovie.com. Unless they made this into a comic series this shouldnt be news here. Thisnis one of those off topic conversations in the comments.

@MrCamw1 - I guess since Cage played Ghost Rider this is somewhat related to cbm?

In all seriousness though it does bother me that Joe Exotic is looked at as some kind of modern folk hero by some. It's pretty obvious that this guy was a POS, but because he's flamboyant and has a mullet he's America's sweetheart all of a sudden.

@CurlyBill - Right. I get he has meme potential but he's also a racist, an abuser (both of men and animals) and tried to get someone killed.

@CurlyBill - it’s crazy that a guy who uses meth and exotic animals to get what he wants would be so damn entertaining.

I was kind of waiting all day for them to repost that X-Men fancast, with actual details, because I was looking forward to the laugh. Instead, we somehow get this and landing on the front page, no less.

I feel like glorifying the people in this show is weird and off putting. They are all criminals. Most of them are actually insane and need help. Joe has become some kind of meme god, but he's a criminal just like the rest of them. If it's a comedy, it takes away the actually wrong they've done and makes it "funny." If it's a drama, what more can they show us that the documentary didn't already?

Danny McBride would be my top choice.
