However, when a meta-human named Jake Simmons (guest star Doug Jones), who kills people with blasts of energy and plasma, starts terrorizing Starling City, Oliver is forced to ask Ray (Brandon Routh) for help. The unlikely duo is forced to team up to save the city. Doug Aarniokoski directed the episode with story by Jake Coburn and teleplay by Ben Sokolowski & Brian Ford Sullivan.

That rare moment when you get to see Doug Jones without any make-up or CG effects.

This Atom is garbage. At least they set up his shrinking powers for the future.

The Mark 44 armor looks like it may get banged up a bit, time to go to Mark 45.

Why doesn't he just use his unibeam... oh wait

So essentially we have the rebooted robocop not realising he has the power to shrink and then getting his ass handed to him by a green goblin reject who somehow strangles him through armour... ¬.¬

Was looking for something more "Villain" and less "Powerman 5000 music video" for Doug Jones. Oi...

People on this website.

This ATOM sucks. He's just an Iron Man rip off. [frick] Arrow. No respect for the comic books.

*last episode reveals they are building up to a shrink power*

ATOM still sucks. He should have the powers already so he's still clearly an Iron Man ripoff. Plus comic ATOM sucks too. [frick] Arrow.

For some reason, I always forget that Ray Palmer was once Clark Kent. I guess it means he's a good actor.

Atom get his ass kicked by a guy who is so cool he wears sunglasses in a dark warehouse while making his introduction. Seems legit. :)

My guess right now is that Brie Larvan is going to be able to communicate with electronics and will sense the nanotechnology in Ray's blood to make him shrink.

The reason why they`re tiptoeing around the shrinking power is not only from budget, but from the fact that the writers cant think of way to use it. Its just easier for them to have ray in a power suit. Ray didnt have to be another vigilante on this show, he could have been just a scientist who wanted to explore the subatomic world but given events ended up a hero.

Honestly no one should take the arrowverse too seriously, I mean c`mon Oliver SOMEHOW went toe-to-toe with Barry. And dont give me that "experience" crap, fact is Oliver was outclassed and is guilty of "because the writers said so".

@SymbioteJoker

No one should take ANY COMIC BOOK UNIVERSE too seriously. That applies for everything. The MCU, the DCCU. Everything doesn't make sense.

Best Atom on the screens ever! Haters, Marvelites just .. realise!

On the one hand, I applaud the showrunners for not depicting Ray's Atom as invincible right away. He has no experience at all. He SHOULD be getting his butt handed to him to start. That said... damn, man. Get wrecked.

You know, an optimistic way to look at things is that the writers are making Ray more like an Armored Al Pratt version Atom before moving on to the shrinking abilities.

I have really enjoyed Arrow this season I think its been good. Not as good as the Flash but its still good. I like where its going I like the actor playing Ra's he's great. And hopefully now that Thea knows oliver's secret she can become the sidekick soon taking Roys place now that he's in prison. I need to catch on the show some more. I'm excited for the finale

They are building up to the shrinking. But in the mean time he is getting his ass stomped.

The Flash is cool. Arrow I mean faux Batman (with all his villains) blows.

Maybe if he gets his ass handed to him enough he'll realize he'll have to find a new power (shrinking)

@ManCalledSting,

I completely agree that I still love this show and I am really glad that they went with the Armored Atom suit instead of spandex. I don't have any complaints, I just hope the double Deadshot issue doesn't lead to more character problems in the future.

I honestly have no idea how anyone could think that ATOM suit is anything but laughable. Dude looks like a cross between Robocop and one of the villains from The Running Man,

ManCalledSting Thanks man I agree both are great shows. I like them both equally its a great time to be a fan. I think the DC TV verse is developing very well.
