Next week, gear up for an action-packed midseason finale of Arrow as Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) takes his team to Lian Yu for a showdown with a few unexpected faces from the past, including people who appear to be Billy Wintergreen (Jeffrey Robinson) and Edward Fyers (Sebastian Dunn).

Joining the Green Arrow are Spartan (David Ramsey), Black Siren (Katie Cassidy), Wild Dog (Rick Gonzalez), Black Canary (Juliana Harkavy), Mia Smoak (Katherine McNamara), Connor Hawke (Joseph David-Jones) and Oliver's first mentor Yao Fei (Byron Mann).

Unfortunately, neither Thea Queen (Willa Holland) nor Roy Harper (Colton Haynes) seem to be taking part in the festivities, so it remains unclear when we'll see them again - but they are expected to return sometime before the show ends its run in 2020, so they should have some role to play in the final three episodes.

"Purgatory" - (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET) (TV-14, V) (HDTV)

BYRON MANN GUEST STARS - Oliver's (Stephen Amell) mission takes him to Lian Yu where he tries to ignore the repercussions of the looming Crisis until he receives help from an old friend. Meanwhile, a united Team Arrow faces a recognizable villain. James Bamford directed the episode written by Rebecca Bellotto & Rebecca Rosenberg (#807). Original airdate 12/3/2019.

This week:

1. Arrow (pretty/very good)
2. Black Lightning (quite good)
3. Flash (solid)

This was probably the strongest episode of the season so far. Not sure if it was my favorite or the best, but certainly the strongest. Well done with good writing, performances and story.

I love episodes like this that are structured in a neat, terrific way (live die repeat) while also allowing for great character growth and depth. The Edge of Tomorrow/ Groundhog Day aspect was really neat and well done (I'm a big fan of these two movies, especially EoT, so for Arrow to have an entire episode paying homage to those movies was great). And this episode didn't give up its secrets early on, it was a journey for Oliver and Laurel as well as the viewers to really figure out what was going on, I do like how they were tested.

It was great to have Quentin back and I'm glad we were able to get some really nice moments between him and Laurel and Oliver. He was certainly the best character to return for this kind of episode, he very much fit into the situation.

Also, CONTINUOUS SHOT FIGHT SEQUENCE!!! That big fight scene involving Oliver and Quentin trying to escape from the building was sweet and well done, the showrunner and director did a really nice job with that scene.

This is pretty much the "go home show" before Crisis right?
Man I just love that we're pretty much going full circle and ending on Lian-Yu.

This is turning out to be one of Arrow's best seasons yet. Tonight's reminded me how much I miss Quentin.

@Himura - yeah, it reminded me that too, how much Quentin has been missed.

And it is kind of bitter sweet and fitting that we have gone full circle and are returning to Lian-Yu before the big finale approaches.

Man, next week's episode looks crazy. Pretty awesome we are returning to Lian-Yu, though I'm guessing this is another time loop test for Oliver and team since Fyers and his cronies are back. Last time we were on Lian-Yu we had one of the best episodes of that season (season 5 finale), so hoping for a great episode before Crisis hits! Looks like Arrow will deliver :-)

Also, I find it very suggestive that Diggle's Spartan helmet has so much green light emanating from the interior. John Diggle Stewart, the multiverse needs you too!!

And finally: "There are no more stories about the Green Arrow to tell."

When he says ‘I’m going to save the multiverse’ I get worried that in Crisis only one or two universes will bite the dust. I want it down to like 3/4 but preferably to just the 1.
