From Roy Harper to Ra’s al Ghul,
Arrow has featured a plethora of heroes and villains from the DC Universe, and while many of them have become mainstays on the show, some saw their time in the spotlight end rather prematurely.
Among the characters that departed the show sooner than many fans expected was the Suicide Squad, specifically Deadshot (Michael Rowe) and Amanda Waller (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) who were killed off because Warner Bros. was developing a
Suicide Squad film.
While the reason behind the characters’ fates has been known for quite some time, we hadn’t heard much about how the producers felt about the decision. Now, however, with the final season of
Arrow nearly upon us, producer Marc Guggenheim has shared his thoughts on the subject.
“You can look at the glass as half-full or half empty. And yes, certainly, if I was so inclined, we could focus on having to kill Deadshot, having to kill Amanda Waller.” Guggenheim told
Entertainment Weekly.
“But the trust is, and this is not bulls—, I look at the glass as half full, because, again, we never in a million years thought we would do as many characters on this show as we did. So from where I’m sitting, it’s nothing but gifts.”
After stating that he had no regrets about the situation, Guggenheim went on to explain why he holds no ill will towards Warner Bros.
“At the end of the day, these are not my characters. These are not Greg’s characters. These are characters we rent out, and we’re very lucky that we get to rent the toys and play with them. Certainly on balance, I think I’d be a dick if I complained about not having access to this character, or having to stop using that character. I’d be a jerk, because I think DC would very well within their rights to go, ‘Well, what about all of these other characters we’ve given you without a problem?’…If DC wants to say, ‘No more Suicide Squad,’ that is absolutely DC’s right and we will work with what we got.”
The final season of
Arrow is set to premiere tonight at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW and will see Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, David Ramsey, Rick Gonzalez, Juliana Harkavy and more return to reprise their respective roles.
