ARROW Star Stephen Amell On Why He Doesn't Believe The DCU Is Needed To Validate Green Arrow

Arrow star Stephen Amell has once again weighed in on possibly playing the DCU's Emerald Archer for DC Studios but appears to require the newly formed studio to sell him on the idea. Check it out...

After The Flash's run came to an end on The CW, the door was closed on the Arrowverse for good. Arrow ended in 2020 after Oliver Queen died in Crisis on Infinite Earths, while Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow were both cancelled before they could receive proper conclusions (much to the disappointment of fans).

It's hard to imagine the Arrowverse ever being revived, especially with DC Studios launching a new slate of movies and projects which are set in the DCU. Some DCEU actors will reprise their roles in that world but we don't expect Stephen Amell, for example, to be given the chance to play Green Arrow again.

The actor has addressed a possible return on numerous occasions, suggesting DC needs to sell him on the idea of playing Ollie again and not the other way around.

Talking to MovieWeb about Code 8: Part II, Amell said, "I don't know. I think it would be really helpful to maybe see, like, a frame of footage from one of the movies before I decide if I want to be a part of it."

"Because I loved playing Oliver Queen, and I don't feel like being in the cinematic universe would validate that character," he continued. "You know, we did eight seasons, we did 170 episodes, and I wouldn't change a thing. So, you know, if he calls, great, if he doesn't, fine!"

It's unlikely Amell will have time to join the DCU as he recently signed up to star in a planned Suits revival.

He's also become a surprisingly divisive figure since Arrow ended, with reports he was forcibly removed from a plane following a loud, drunken argument with his wife in 2021. Then, there were his remarks about last year's SAG-AFTRA strike which saw him come under fire from his fellow actors due to an apparent lack of support on his end.

Gunn has said Green Arrow is one of his favourite comic book characters, so we're sure there are finally big or small screen plans in place for the Emerald Archer as the DCE expands across both theaters and the Max streaming service.

Whether those would involve the actor who spent nearly a decade playing him on television seems doubtful, though we're sure many fans wouldn't be against seeing Amell get to play a more comic-accurate version of OIlie if the opportunity arises.

Would you like to see the actor suit up as the DCU's Green Arrow? Let us know your thoughts on that in the comments section.

I respect the hell out of Amell as an actor and for his charity work, and though the shows quality wasn't consistent, when it was at its top it was dope for the era it came up in. Arrow is the only CW show I've watched a second time. So there is that.

@TheVandalore - I respect him as a person and acknowledge his drive. But I find him wooden and unwatchable as an actor. Tried watching Heels and Code 8(not sure if that’s the name?) and I just can’t watch him act. It’s like watching a bad high school play to me.

@TheVandalore - can't believe they had the guts to let the villain win in season one. And have the ramifications of that stick.

As a fan of Arrow & Stephen’s version of Oliver , him joining the DCU as their Green Arrow isn’t gonna happen (same with Grant as the Flash) which I’m fine with…

They had their time and ended on their own terms so I think it’s best to have someone new take on the character to see the take they bring to it.

Also , he is right that being in the DCU doesn’t validate the character since the show & Arrowverse itself succeeded where many other studios and even their own big screen counterparts had failed at the time by creating a successful & cohesive shared universe that most fans atleast enjoyed.

Anyway , I’m still looking forward to his upcoming projects such as Code 8 Part II & Suits L.A (especially the latter as someone who enjoyed the original from what i saw).

I've said it before and I'll say it again: The DCU wants nothing to do with any actors that were from the CW shows (probably the MAX shows too besides Peacemaker).

Starting fresh with higher production costs, better directors and writers, and more talented actors show be the DCU's plan. No connection to ANY past DC films, Animated Universe shows/films, or anything else. That includes actors.

Oh, and it's funny to me how he thinks he's in charge of picking and choosing the GA part or any other by assessing the script first. NEWSFLASH Bro: they don't want you and you will never be a blip on their radar.

He answered a question someone asked, and I love his answer. He's 100% right. Since the beginning he has been very protective of his Green Arrow character and the work they all did.

Between him and Gustin, they need to move on.

There most likely will be a Green Arrow in the DCU at some point, and they absolutely wouldn't even momentarily consider Stephen Amell to play him.

Well look at this: an Arrowverse related thread that miraculously managed to stay decent and level-head in the discussing. More exchanges like this, please.

If he meant his version that he played of Oliver then yes there's no way the new cinematic universe will validate it, he went out with a big sacrifice play and restored his Multiverse's reality with a new paint job and we even learned last year in Flash there are certain rules of when he can get involved. None versions need each other.

The ball is on the DCU's yard and after that deflating revelation Charlie Hunman gave last year about never seeing the point in being fan-cast as Green Arrow I'm morbidly curious to see who Gunn will search to play GA. Since he's "one of his favourite characters" and all that jazz.

Would be funny if he picked Grant Gustin because he really killed it as Green Arrow in Elseworlds. XD

BTW Josh no need to bring up an incident from 2021 to frame Stephen as "divisive", was more than enough with his mistaken stand on last year's strikes. He's still a stand-up person that's been involved with charities and learns from his mistakes like all of us.

"It's hard to imagine the Arrowverse ever being revived" I seriously hope you aren't jinxing it because this is exactly how jinx works.

The only revival(s) I'm interested still is in wraps up for Legends, Batwoman, a rightful continuation of where Stargirl left off and make use of the JL members in a TV series with the JL animated storytelling structure format of 13 eps, 5 or 6 Seasons take. A an Elseworlds of course.

I'm very curious too about the Suits: LA show, him and Eugene's actor from The Walking Dead will make for an odd but interesting dynamic.
