CONFIRMED: Matt Ryan To Return As CONSTANTINE In Upcoming Episode Of ARROW

It may not have received a second season, but #ConstantineLives on The CW! It has been confirmed today that Matt Ryan will reprise the role of John Constantine in season four of Arrow, and you can get all the latest details on how that's going to play out after the jump...

Constantine never really stood a chance at NBC, so its cancellation earlier this year didn't come as a particularly huge surprise. For a time, it appeared as if the series might end up elsewhere, but no one seemed particularly interested in picking it up. Thankfully though, we haven't seen the last of Matt Ryan's take on the fan-favourite character as it was confirmed at the Television Critics Association Press Tour today that the actor is coming to season four of Arrow and will reprise the role in a special one-shot episode. Whether that will lead to something more remains to be seen!

However, we do now know that he'll first appear in episode five (titled "Haunted"). "We are thrilled to have Matt Ryan reprise the role of John Constantine on an upcoming episode of Arrow," says executive producer Marc Guggenheim in the press release. "Matt is an incredibly talented actor and his portrayal of this beloved character was always something we admired. The introduction of magic and mysticism on the show this season has provided a truly organic opportunity for us to bring John Constantine to Arrow and the CW’s DC universe. It will be a well-deserved tip of the hat to all the Constantine fans who were so incredibly supportive of that series." In Arrow, John Constantine is a weather worn exorcist and expert on the supernatural and the occult. He is a detective, magician, and a hunter of demons, and will provide critical support to Oliver (Stephen Amell) when arrows aren't enough. In other words, it's going to be pretty damn awesome!

Stephen Amell actually offered to make a guest appearance on season two of Constantine if a network were to pick it up, and Ryan said at the time that it would be a "real pleasure to explore these guys' dynamic." They're now going to get a chance to do just that, but it will be on Arrow instead! How do you guys feel about these plans for what's sure to be a fun crossover?

@Kr08

I would be perfectly content with that! Just the right amount to spread out the budget for good CGI and can cut out sime filler.

You know what this means right? It's most likely that Constantine is going to be loved and well received by fans that they will probably give him his own CW series. Most likely a 10 episode season like Legends of Tomorrow!

If this is successful, it will be more likely that they will want to confirm that Supergirl and the new TITANS show will be a part of the Arrowverse!

This also means that SPECTRE and DOCTOR FATE exist in the Arrowverse!

Hopefully his appearance will be used as a test of sort to see how people react to him and to gauge how much people would want a continuation of the show. It had low numbers for an NBC show but stellar numbers for a CW one.

Honestly season 4 of Arrow so far sounds interesting (save for the "Olicity" grabage).

I think I'll end up watching it.

Pros of Season 4:
- Upgraded and cooler looking costume.
- He'll be called Green Arrow now.
- It's no longer "starling city" and is now "Star City."
- Constantine and other comic book characters will not be introduced onto the show and it's universe.
- More Laurel ([frick] you, I like her character).

Cons:
- Felicity
- Felicity

This is awesome. Say what you want about the Constantine show, but Matt Ryan killed it, especially when the showrunners allowed him to drink and smoke.
