CW President Talks About ARROWVERSE Shows And BATWOMAN Series, Says No Plans For Batman Yet

Last month it was revealed that the CW was developing a Batwoman televsion series that would spin out of her appearance on this year's upcoming Arrowverse crossover.  With Caroline Dries, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns, and Arrowverse architect Greg Berlanti involved, the show will see a lesbian Kate Kane battle crime in Gotham while also working through her own demons.

CW President Mark Pedowitz, speaking at the network's Television Critics Association summer press tour, confirmed that Berlanti was in the early stages of developing the series, with an aim for a 2019 premiere. Pedowitz revealed that they will film a pilot and see if the series gets picked up, though it's hard to believe that this show won't make it to air.

We'll do a pilot for mid-season, whether it goes to series, I cannot tell you. We have five [DC shows] on the air and just added a sixth night.

While Batwoman will be making her live action debut on the CW, we should not expect to see Batman anytime soon. Pedowitz did not rule out a future appearance from the caped crusader, but says they currently do not plan on having Bruce Wayne show up. He did, however, reaffirm that Batman does already exist in the Arrowverse.

Bruce Wayne and his alter ego have been teased multiple times throughout the history of the Arrowverse, the biggest of which occurred in Arrow season 6 when Oliver Queen namedrops Wayne during a press conference. Perhaps, if Batwoman is picked up and proves a success, we may get some appearances from the dark knight.

Finally, Pedowitz addressed the longevity of their DC shows. The CW is growing to 6 nights of original content a week this Fall, with Pedowitz revealing there is even potential for expanding to all 7 nights, and this bodes well for the continuation of the current DC series and the addition of more, as seen with Batwoman. Unsurprisingly, there are no plans to end any of the Arrowverse shows.

Shows do eventually end, we have no plans yet to end one or any of them. We'll see where we come out as the season goes on.

Are you excited for a Batwoman series? Be sure to share your thoughts about everything Pedowitz talked about regarding the Arrowverse.

Batman Beyond in the thumbnail why?

@Zappy - because there have been rumors ever since the concept artist for Legends revealed a Batman Beyond sketch that the character could eventually appear in the Arrowverse... so I went with something fun.

I can live without seeing Batman in the arrowverse. I want what's been hinted at: Blue Beetle. And when they got Dina from Hub City not once did they think to introduce The Question??

@MrCamw1 - Blue Beetle may actually appear this season on Arrow. There have been casting calls for a character that fits Ted Kord pretty well.

Not sure if you knew, but Brandon Routh was originally going to play Ted Kord. However, DC/WB stepped in and told the Arrowverse producers/writers that they were not allowed to use the character and forced them to change Kord to Ray Palmer.

@HeavyMetal4Life - I think I read that some time ago. I'm sure it was for when they were going to do the now defunct Booster Gold Blue Beetle movie.

@MrCamw1 - yeah that was definitely the reason. They might have scrapped that film finally, which is perhaps the reason why they may be allowing Ted Kord to appear.

Honestly, and you've probably seen my disgust with how WB/DC overreaches into the Arrowverse shows, I can understand them not using the trinity and some of the other major Justice League members like Aquaman and Cyborg. But the rest of the characters, there shouldn't be any restrictions. Its a disservice.

@MrCamw1 @HeavyMetal4Life

Just a heads up, that movie is not "defunct". It is still categorized as in-development, as Berlanti has provided updates on it. That's probably why we haven't seen Kord on the CW just yet.

Not saying that Booster Gold/Blue Beetle team-up film will 100% be made, but it definitely is farther along than the hypothetical MoS2 and/or Cyborg film, for example.

@L0RDbuckethead - I'll keep that in mind. I read Kevin smith might be attached to something dc related on regards to movies so this could be it.

@MrCamw1 - Eh, I don't see Smith helming this type of film, personally. Other heroes, yes, but I don't want him to Jay and Silent Bob the Gold/Beetle relationship. Nothing against Smith though, he's awesome.

Berlanti is supposedly the writer of this film, but since he has his hand in everything DC right now, I don't think he's prioritizing it ahead of those.

Supposedly Zack Stentz (Thor, X-Men: First Class) helped Berlanti write the first treatment, but other than that, no one else is attached to it at the moment.

An aspect of these shows that ruins the feeling for me is that almost everyones costumes look the same. the same wrinkled, shiny leather. It's unpleasing to look at and gives off a cheap feeling.

Black Lightning steered clear of that which is great.

The Atom's breaks the norm too but he's always felt clunky in the shows and the portrayal of his is weird.

Something's gotta give IMO about the shows. He was clear last year about just having 5 and now we have Batwoman. TBH the way Stephen Amell has been talking about treating S7 as if it had an end or not knowing what will happen afterwards makes me think that they are indeed considering wrapping it up. But who knows.

I just need to know a status of sorts about Batman and that will suffice. But being honest, WB knows damn well that if they allowed them to do Batman they will blow them out of the water just like they did it with Superman in 2016 and they can not have that.

Give us Batman you cowards.
