ELSEWORLDS Stills Offer New Looks At Superman, Lois Lane, Batwoman, Monitor & More; Plus A Batman Update

Thanksgiving came a little early as the CW has released twenty new promotional stills from the eagerly-awaited three-part "Elseworlds" crossover which is set to air December 9-11, and will bring together the worlds of The Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl with a number of major guest stars, including the Man of Steel (Tyler Hoechlin) himself.

In addition to the long-awaited return of Superman, fans will also be introduced to the latest incarnation of his lady love, Lois Lane (Bitsie Tulloch), as well as a pair of formidable new villains in The Monitor (LaMonica Garrett) and Dr. John Deegan (Jeremy Davies). Plus, as if that wasn't enough, the original Scarlet Speedster (John Wesley Shipp) is also back and it looks like we're in for some identity-switching shenanigans as not only do Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) swap places, it looks like alternate versions of Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes) and James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) are also on the way.

On another note, with our heroes traveling to Gotham City, it's only natural to wonder whether the Berlantiverse will finally address the big elephant in the room: Where is Batman?

Well, we have some good news as Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that the crossover will indeed address the storied legend of the Dark Knight, who has mysteriously been missing for several years. His lengthy absence has essentially turned Gotham into a crime-infested wasteland, which should make for an interesting change of
scenery for our three heroes.

Caroline Dries, who will serve as the executive producer and showrunner of Batwoman if it goes to series, explains, “Our approach is: What does Gotham look like after the Batman has been gone for three years? So if you have the law and order, protector, and hope gone, what happens as a result? Some people are thriving in his absence because now they can start to do their own thing without the oversight. A lot of other people are suffering and they’re losing hope, and the city itself and infrastructure
is falling apart. So it’s not a happy place. Our guys walk into a grimy, scary Gotham.” Former Arrow showrunner Marc Guggenheim adds, “It’s a dead city. The way I sort of described it to Stephen is, it’s there but for the grace of God goes Star City. It’s the worst case scenario. The reason no one talks about Gotham is the city might as well be dead. It’s practically a ghost town.

As compelling as that sounds, don't expect it to be all gloom and doom as once Kara (Melissa Benoist), Barry, and Oliver set foot in the city
, things are going to a take a temporary turn for the better and should give fans a laugh or two when the crime-fighting trio begins debating whether or not the Dark Knight actually exists or if he's just an elaborate myth.

Gustin teases Barry's enthusiastic reaction, “Oliver is like, ‘He’s not real! They’ve made him up! It’s a hoax just to scare the citizens.’ Barry is flabbergasted by that and all he wants to do in Gotham is meet Batman. It’s a pretty funny scene.," while Amell lets us know what Oliver's thinking, "Oliver is not enthused about the idea that there might be some other vigilante out there.

This looks like it will be fun as hell, as all of the crossovers have been.

@aflynn - I read in like reddit or 4chan that reactions/reviews has been very mixed tho. Trouble for CW.

@aflynn - I am stupid excited for the JWS Flash and I didn't even watch that show. It's weird. I shouldn't be this excited for a character I really have no connection to whatsoever.

Too much to ask for a Lynda Carter Diana cameo? Probably, yeah.

@KIRITO - Much like the fan reactions on social media to Aquaman, everyone in the CBM community is talking about it, but I have more faith in the CW.

I’m so ready for this crossover, my interest in the Arrowverse has been winding down lately but the crossovers are always fun and this easily seems like the biggest one yet

Monitor and Batwoman's suits are pretty much perfection. How the hell did they get Flash's new costume so wrong?
Beerus
Beerus - 11/19/2018, 8:11 PM
@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - I don't want to be a broken record, but the suit was honestly pure perfection last season, and they should have just stuck with it. The complainers/problems with leather be damned. Now we have a suit that looks ridiculous, mostly because of the missing chinstrap.

Plus the suit just makes it more obvious to who The Flash might be. At least the old suit(s) had a sort of mystery. For example (in their universe) if we saw The Flash in person, and didn't know Barry Allen personally, would we really connect the two? Sure they might have a similar face, but the other guy might have a butt-chin (not sure of the proper term), or even have facial hair covered by his mask. This version of the suit just reveals more of his face, and helps criminals find out who he might be (especially when standing still/talking), doesn't seem logical to me.

The Flash goes missing in 2024. The League is confirmed to form before that happens.

Literally anytime between now and 2024, they're gonna have to show Batman eventually. And on top of that Wonder Woman, Lantern, etc. This dancing around the subject thing they're doing won't last forever.

@Kurne - As great as it would be to see the original 7, they don't need to use the original 7 members, Smallville didn't, plus after Crisis On Infinite Earths the Justice League was mostly made up of B and C list heroes

@Beerus - Yeah Batman is my favorite superhero and ive been watching Gotham ever since it started, but I always said it should end at season 5, but I was hoping it would be a full 5th season. I just never wanted the show to go downhill like Smallville and so many other shows that go on for a long time do, but now that it's ending I don't want it to go.

Gotham being a ghost town that no one ever bothers to talk about sounds like almost a dream-like scenario for Batman lore stories and Batman being missing is a nice touch. I bet they learned from before in Supergirl S1 that instead of keeping their iconic hero off limits due to something (ak WB not wanting to be lenient back then) then it is better to do this. (Similarly in the past many thought it'd be best to have had The Death of Superman already taken place in SG S1)

They should greenlit Batwoman, would be interesting to see what happens and Kate's mission would be crystal clear: bring back Gotham to how it used to be and maybe one day find Batman.

I'm losing interest in the contrivance of Supergirl coming to Arrow's Earth, etc. Funny how the Nazi dopplegangers were on one Earth. Sigh.
