Batwoman fans are still reeling from last night's announcement that star Ruby Rose will not be reprising the lead role of Kate Kane for the show's upcoming second season, and some surprising new details on what exactly led to the actress hanging up the cape and cowl have now emerged.

The statements released at the time seemed to suggest that it was Rose's choice to part ways with the show, but if a new report from TV Line is accurate, it sounds like it was actually a mutual decision... at best!

Apparently, Rose has been unhappy for quite some time, and never really got used to the long hours required of her to lead a major TV series. It's also said that she did not acclimate well to life in Vancouver, where the show if primarily filmed.

“It wasn’t 100-percent her decision,” reveals the site's source. “It was a breakup. She wasn’t happy working on the show, and did that make her fun to work with? No. So everyone decided it would be in the best interests of the show, and for all concerned, if they parted ways. It just wasn’t a good fit.”

Of course, we won't know the full story until Rose decides to share her side. In the meantime, speculation is bound to run rampant.

So it appears it was a slow-burn of things that were piling up the longer she stayed in Vancouver until she realised she might have asked for more that she could handle.

That sucks. Nevertheless she still did good with the first Season to get it renewed for S2.

My thoughts on this, from the other article:

If that's the reason, things make sense. She never really came off as enjoying the role. Often times you can tell when someone loves their role- Amell, Gustin, Benoist, etc., they all visibly enjoy their roles. I think we all felt Rose's somewhat emotionless performance was a result of the iteration of Kate that she was trying to portray, but now it's obvious it seems that she just didn't enjoy the role. And I guess this lends further weight to her seemingly not having a lot of chemistry with some of the other actors on screen. She always just seemed so upset and uptight.

And yeah, she honestly should have known what she was getting herself into. I kind of put more of the blame at her feet here. Sure, you don't want to be in a role that you are unhappy about, that's a good reason to leave, but the fact she was in this position to begin with is a bit surprising, she should have known better.

If she left the show because she was having a terrible time, couldn't adapt to working/living conditions/location, was having decreased chemistry with people on set because of this, and bowed out of a multi-year contract commitment, that just doesn't bode well for her future endeavors (at least on the TV side), that just isn't a good outcome.

Where are the people from yesterday who were jumping the gun blaming it on her being a lesbian, people pressuring her about the injury, etc.?

Actor hours are no joke, so I get it. But you knew in advanced this was gonna be your show, so your workload was obviously gonna be hectic.

Ah. So Vancouver DID have something to possibly do with it.

That is not a surprise, and she would not be the first person who didn’t like the Vancouver filming. (My immediate thought when this broke was, ‘I wonder if this is Vancouver again?’)

Oh well best to just part ways so everyone can be happier.

For the recast; how about Alexandra Daddario or Emmy Rossum?
