Fox's hit TV show Gotham has come a long way since it started its premiere season, which began with Bruce Wayne witnessing the massacre of his parents in an all-too-familiar alley. Since then, iconic supervillains have risen as the show chronicled Gotham City's descent into madness, paralleled with Bruce's stepping stones to becoming the dark knight detective fans know as Batman. The upcoming fifth and final season, set for a Spring 2019 debut, will finally see him finish his transformation.
Season 4 ended with Gotham being cut off from the outside world and falling into anarchy, adapting the classic No Man's Land storyline from the comics. Since then, showrunner John Stephens has stated that the final season will adapt Zero Year, a comic book reboot of Batman's first year of crimefighting which saw Edward Nygma/The Riddler wipe out the power grid and completely take over Gotham City. It was also previously reported that the show will introduce Eduardo Dorrance, the father of Bane. The episode titles for the season seem to follow suit:
-
Gotham – Episode 5.01 – Year Zero

Other stray details from the upcoming season include that Edward Nygma will be re-introduced naked, mumbling to himself in a library, and covered in tattooed riddles; Leslie Thompkins will undergo an unspecified "drastic change"; James Gordon will finally grow his trademark facial hair; and the supervillains Mother, Orphan, Man-Bat, Lady Shiva, and the Ventriloquist will play a role this season.
