Following the success of Batman Unburied (which has been renewed for a second season), Spotify, Warner Bros. and DC announced that Harley Quinn & The Joker: Sound Mind had begun production last year, and the first preview has now been released.
Christina Ricci (Wednesday, Yellowjackets) is set to play Harley Quinn, with Billy Magnussen (No Time to Die, The Many Saints of Newark) on board as The Joker and Justin Hartley (Smallville, This Is Us) providing the voice of Bruce Wayne/Batman.
The teaser focuses on Doctor Quinzell's first meeting with "Patient J."
"The story begins when Quinn is still known as Dr. Harleen Quinzel, a top psychologist at Arkham Asylum who is determined to help the patients her colleagues have given up on."
“But her dad is sick, and in need of an expensive, life-saving operation Harleen can’t afford. So when she meets ‘Patient J,’ a unique criminal who seems to have a strange power over everyone but her, Harleen makes a fateful decision: to use her relationship with J to get what she needs, leading both of them down a dangerous path that will change their lives forever.”
The podcast was developed by Homecoming writer and executive producer Eli Horowitz.
This will mark Ricci's first comic book-based role, though we're sure many fans would prefer to see her suit-up as Harley in live-action! The actress, who recently appeared in Netflix's Wednesday, has had some practice playing an unhinged character as the adult version of Misty in Showtime's Yellowjackets, which will soon return for its second season.
Sound Mind will also feature Amy Sedaris (The Mandalorian, At Home with Amy Sedaris) as Harleen’s Aunt Rose, Andre Royo (Empire, The Spectacular Now) as Arnold Wesker, aka The Ventriloquist, Stephen Root (Barry, King Of The Hill) as Harleen’s boss Grunfeld, Fred Melamed (Barry, WandaVision) as Harleen’s co-worker Bob, Mary Holland (Senior Year) as Margaret Pye aka Magpie, and Elias Koteas (Goliath, Chicago PD) as Harleen’s father Nicky Quinzel.
Do you guys plan on checking this out on January 31?
