The CW has announced today that DC's Legends of Tomorrow will return for its fifth season on Tuesday, January 21.

The season premiere, which is titled "Meet the Legends," is set to air just one week after the hotly awaited finale to DC TV's five-part "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover, which is being billed as a special episode of the fan-favorite series.

Legends of Tomorrow season five will bring back most of the main cast from last year, but will also feature a number of big changes as series regulars Brandon Routh (Ray Palmer/The Atom) and Courtney Ford (Nora Darhk) are expected to depart the series midway through the season. Plus, Tala Ashe will be portraying a new version of Zari while Olivia Swann joins the main cast as this year's big bad Astra Logue.

After defeating the demon Mallus by cuddling him to death with a giant stuffed animal named Beebo, the Legends are ready to ease off the gas. Sara and her team join Ava Sharpe and the Time Bureau to help clean up the last few remaining anachronisms. The job seems straightforward enough until Constantine arrives to inform them that, in solving one major problem, they have created another, much larger one. When the Legends let time crumble in order to release and defeat Mallus, the barrier between worlds softened. History is now infected with "Fugitives" - magical creatures from myths, fairytales, and legends. Having been expelled throughout time by people like Constantine, these Fugitives are now returning to our world in droves and making a real mess of things. As the Time Bureau is distrustful of and ill-equipped to deal with magic, the Legends must team up with everyone's favorite demonologist to set history back on track.

Legends Of Tomorrow features:
Brandon Routh as Dr. Ray Palmer/The Atom
Caity Lotz as Sara Lance/White Canary
Maisie Richardson-Sellers as Charlie

Jes Macallan as Ava Sharpe
Amy Louise Pemberton as Gideon
Courtney Ford as Nora Darhk

I wonder when they'll find the right schedule to release their trailer and proper S5 poster with all the crazy-ness of Crisis going on in December.

Really hope that this season is a massive swing back into the right direction, towards the quality of seasons 2 and 3, because season 4 was all over the place and not in a good way. As someone for whom Legends was his second favorite Arrowverse show, season 4 sadly killed off a lot of my interest in this show. Sigh

@HeavyMetal4Life - Season 4 leaned too into the CW-demographic relationship nonsense that the first few seasons managed to avoid.

More Beebo, less shipping please and thank you.

I wish they'd go back to actually being a DC Comics tv show rather than a generic superhero team spoof mostly disconnected from anything DC.
