LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Stars Brandon Routh & Courtney Ford Set To Exit The Series In Season Five

Deadline is reporting that Brandon Routh (Ray Palmer/Atom) and Courtney Ford (Nora Darhk) will be leaving DC's Legends of Tomorrow as series regulars during the show's upcoming fifth season.

Details are being kept under wraps, but the exit is being described as a creative decision to wrap up both of their storylines, which has seen the real-life married couple go from on-screen enemies to reluctant teammates to love interests. However, while they are leaving, the door is being kept open for the pair to return down the line to lend a helping hand to their Legends family.

Following the news, Brandon Routh, a fan-favorite original cast member, released the following statement, “I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to bring the big-hearted and humorous Ray Palmer to life for our fans over the last 5 years, but unfortunately, his storyline is pointed in another direction. I’m saddened to see Ray’s journey end for now but wish my Legends family well.

Courtney Ford said, “Nora Darhk is very close to my heart. If it were my choice, I’d play her for years to come. But I understand that stories run their course, and I’m grateful for the time I did have bringing Nora to life on Legends of Tomorrow.

In a joint statement, executive producers Phil Klemmer, Grianne Godfree and Keto Shimizu expressed their gratitude, “Brandon and Courtney have been invaluable members of the Legends family. They have always brought a level passion and collaboration to their characters and to the show — both on and off the screen – that we deeply admire and for which we are eternally grateful.

Ahead of the fifth season's January premiere, Routh will suit up as Kingdom Come Superman for the eagerly-awaited "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover event.

After defeating the demon Mallus by cuddling him to death with a giant stuffed animal named Beebo, the Legends are ready to ease off the gas. Sara and her team join Ava Sharpe and the Time Bureau to help clean up the last few remaining anachronisms. The job seems straightforward enough until Constantine arrives to inform them that, in solving one major problem, they have created another, much larger one. When the Legends let time crumble in order to release and defeat Mallus, the barrier between worlds softened. History is now infected with "Fugitives" - magical creatures from myths, fairytales, and legends. Having been expelled throughout time by people like Constantine, these Fugitives are now returning to our world in droves and making a real mess of things. As the Time Bureau is distrustful of and ill-equipped to deal with magic, the Legends must team up with everyone's favorite demonologist to set history back on track.

Legends Of Tomorrow features:
Brandon Routh as Dr. Ray Palmer/The Atom
Caity Lotz as Sara Lance/White Canary
Maisie Richardson-Sellers as Charlie
Tala Ashe as Zari Tomaz
Jes Macallan as Ava Sharpe
Courtney Ford as Nora Darhk

considering they are going to the trouble of making Brandon Routh a new superman suit, maybe they will kill Atom in Crisis and replace him with Superman. It could work, just depower him down action comics #1 level superman, super strength, leaping and heat vision

Wow, the CW is taking Spiderman away too.

Hopefully they get replaced with comic book characters, of the new main characters added in season 4, the only one from the comics was Constantine. If Krypton isn't saved by another network or DC Universe, Adam Strange or Mister Terrific would be perfect replacements for Atom

Still processing it, wow. At this point only Caity Lotz and Dominic Purcell are the original Legends that are still on the team.

I wonder who might fill in the place left by them, specially Ray.

I hope they don't die, would not make sense then to say tha the door is open for them to return at some point to the show besides the obvious window of time travel. I am going to cross fingers that Ray's time as a Legend is over but that he can still show up in the other shows as recurring or maybe a new series regular. The Arrowverse is changing but I hope not so much.

They have been shooting episodes of S5 so I believe we are going to see Ray and Nora for the first half of S5. Again, I hope he makes it out alive from Crisis.

I think Ray and Nora settle down in the post Crisis 2020 after the "death" of his friend and former rival Oliver Queen.

Ray joins the surviving Team Arrow in carrying on the legacy of the Green Arrow by protecting Star City as a resident
superhero and business leader.

From what I hear, Mr. Terrific is joining Team Flash at some point. The new showrunner likes the character and has
asked to have him move to Star City when Arrow ends.

I mean to move from Star City to Central City.

Slightly unrelated but do we know if his portrayal of Kingdom Come Superman is a continuation of Superman Returns? Because doesn't that technically mean we're getting a version of Christopher Reeve's Superman?!

If they manage to subtly age him up enough that he convincingly looks more like an older Christopher Reeve, and thus less like he looks as The Atom, that'd be really cool. And if they manage to somehow fit in a throwaway line about how in his universe he's been "doing this since the '70s" then that'd be cool too.

If CW is looking to add another series, perhaps this has more to do with that then just getting rid of their characters. Perhaps a real Justice League or Justice Society series, set in post Crisis.

I just wish they would have pulled more from the comics for the Atom. I would have liked for them to have drawn from The Sword of the Atom.
