The CW has released the first official poster for the upcoming third season of Stargirl, which promises to be the grandest year yet for Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger), as she takes her superhero journey up a level by finally starting her training under Starman (Joel McHale).

The acclaimed DC series will return on Wednesday, August 31 at 8:00 PM EST. Plot details are scarce, but the season will be subtitled, "Frenemies," so expect a lot of drama between the new Justice Society of America and the former Injustice Society.

Additionally, Entertainment Weekly has shared six first look stills from season three, offering a preview of what to expect in the first two episodes. They aren't particularly revealing by any means, but we do get some cool shots of Starman teaching our titular heroine how to better wield the Cosmic Staff.

In addition to Brec Bassinger as Courtney Whitmore/Stargirl, the main cast will also feature Yvette Monreal as Yolanda Montez/Wildcat, Anjelika Washington as Beth Chapel/Dr. Mid-Nite, Cameron Gellman as Rick Tyler/Hourman, Trae Romano as Mike Dugan, Hunter Sansone as Cameron Mahkent, Neil Hopkins as Larry Crock, Joy Osmanski as Paula Brooks, Amy Smart as Barbara Whitmore, Meg DeLacy as Cindy Burman/Shiv, Luke Wilson as Pat Dugan/S.T.R.I.P.E., and Joel McHale as Sylvester Pemberton/Starman.

Keith David is expected to voice this season's assumed big bad Mister Bones, while Ysa Penarejo (Jennie-Lynn Hayden), Stella Smith (Artemis Crock), Jonathan Cake (Richard Swift/The Shade), Alkoya Brunson (Jakeem Williams), Tim Gabriel (Todd Rice/Obsidian), and Seth Green (Thunderbolt) will also appear in recurring capacities.

DC’s Stargirl follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore as she inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. This new drama reimagines DC’s Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in an unpredictable series.

Season one was ok...taped all S2 and watched a couple...then skipped right to the last episode and it was still a waste of time.

While their previous Season 2 poster was better I get that with this one what they're doing is staying on topic with the central S3 theme of the murder mystery and how everyone is going to be considered a suspect. The setting of the poster could also be in a way telling us that they're all going to be monitored in some location and judging by the background, it reminds me to the underground tunnels.

Most of the pictures featuring the rest of the cast are from S2, but now I also realize that Sportsmaster and Tigress aren't in any of the TVs. It is a little odd to exclude them when they're now series regulars and are also going to be scrutinized.

And as for the pictures:

The Staff is shining a lot in that first picture as Sylvester appears to be handing Cosmo to Courtney that lights up the entire house. I wonder if it one of thos scenes where the Staff is struggling with whom does it answer to.

He's striking a cool battle pose in the 2nd picture.

I've got a feeling that the person Sly and Court are looking at in the 3rd picture is Shade who is wearing his normal non-Shade attire that is a normal suit. I remember him wearing it half of the time in S2 in scenes he shared with Barbara.

I'll bet that the person Pat and Sylvester are looking at while they are at the diner is also him in the 4th one.

Maybe what the JSA is watching, in shock, in the 5th picture is the person that has been murdered and kickstarts the story arc?

And Barbara and Paula/Tigress have some weird stains on their faces in the final picture. Sure, it could be some leftover from what they're baking but it could also be some dried blood? :P

Looking forward to S3!

I've been bin watching S1 and S2 the past couple of weeks, not at all a waste of time. At first I thought a little negatively - as it was/is obviously a teen driven show (aging me out) but, I read a good review or two and thought I'd give it a second look beyond the first couple of shows - and yes, I enjoyed it. CW is getting better at making DC superhero TV, and it "shows".
