The CW has released a new promo for the penultimate episode of Superman & Lois season 3, offering perhaps our best look yet at Michael Cudlitz's Lex Luthor.

The Walking Dead alum is an unexpected choice to bring the iconic villain to life on screen, and he doesn't initially resemble the Lex we all know so well from the comic books. However, the hair can be explained by the fact Lex has spent the past 17 years behind bars for a crime he didn't commit!

Cudlitz will eventually shave that off to portray a somewhat more classic take on Luthor at some point, though, and the villain is set to take centre stage in the final two episodes of the season (now that primary antagonist Bruno Mannheim has been dealt with).

We'd guess the plan is to introduce Lex here before he takes centre stage in season 4. Unfortunately, Superman & Lois' future still hasn't been decided on by The CW, though DC Studios would be wise to give the show a final batch of episodes to avoid backlash from fans.

It's worth noting that ratings are on the rise as it recently topped 660,0000 viewers in the coveted 18-49 demographic. That's Superman & Lois' best performance since April and the third-highest rating of season 3. Will those numbers be enough to save the series? It's hard to say.

In "Injustice," Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) and Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) clash with Jordan (Alex Garfin) over his carelessness around using his powers in public, while Jonathan (Michael Bishop) struggles with Kyle’s (Erik Valdez) change in behaviour at the firehouse. Meanwhile, Sarah (Inde Navarrette) grows frustrated with Lana (Emmanuelle Chriqui) after she accidentally makes things more complicated with Jordan.

And finally, after seventeen years behind bars, Lex Luthor is set to be released from prison. Sudz Sutherland directed the episode written by Michael Narducci.

@99OPTIMISTPRIME - lex having hair is completely canon and has been done repeatedly in the comics. hair and beard.

@99OPTIMISTPRIME - I agree. Time to get back to classic bald billionaire Lex. I understand having is comic accurate also, but still he looks iconic as shown above.

@99OPTIMISTPRIME - Yeah he should be around Clark's age with a similar build, and not as pleasing on the eyes. He's not Bats, but Lex is very resourceful in his own right.

Hope the shows gets at least one more season. I love what they did with Mannheim, so I’m really interested to see what they do with Lex.

I really hop that Max picks this up if the CW doesnt renew this. A MAX treatment of this show would be wonderful!

I wonder if Gunn is gonna pull an early 2000s style “WB managing Batman” where he doesn’t let the tv shows touch Supes and cancels this??

WB didn’t let Smallville touch Batman, the CW verse for a long while too.

Yup. I already know what the season (maybe series) cliffhanger is gonna be. It'll be a shot of someone shaving his head.

So the bad ratings are getting a little better.

This was the best of the soapy wokey crappy pandering CW DC junk that went down the tubes years ago.

Let it all die so that Gunn starts with a clean slate.
