THE SANDMAN Set Video Reveals Our First Behind-The-Scenes Look At Tom Sturridge As Morpheus

A brief video from the set of Netflix's The Sandman has been shared online, giving us a glimpse of Tom Sturridge as the eponymous Lord of Dreams.

The recent behind-the-scenes sneak peek did unveil some concept art featuring the character, but this is our first live-action look at the Being Julia actor as Morpheus.

Here, Dream is wearing the all-black outfit he dons when he visits the waking world. Sturridge looks pale, but doesn't appear to have the alabaster-white skin of his comic book counterpart. To be fair, that does make sense if he's supposed to be passing for human.

Check out the video below, and find out who'll be joining Sturridge as part of the main cast right here.

The 11-episode first season of The Sandman is expected to adapt the first arc of the Vertigo comics series, "Preludes and Nocturnes," which finds Dream captured by a black magician and held prisoner for the better part of a century. When he finally escapes, he sets about recovering three very important items, encountering Lucifer, John Constantine, Doctor Destiny, Martian Manhunter and more on his travels.

The official logline reads: "A rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama and legend are seamlessly interwoven, The Sandman follows the people and places affected by Morpheus, the Dream King, as he mends the cosmic — and human — mistakes he's made during his vast existence."

Neil Gaiman developed the show along with David S. Goyer and Allan Heinberg. No premiere date has been set.

Man this show is gonna be good. If nothing more than because it’s already pissed off so many morons with just it’s casting. That and if the audible adaption was stellar and I’d imagine they’ll be taking notes from its reception

Well, not impressed, but I'll wait to see the final product. It's perfectly possible they'll do some post VFX stuff on him still to make him appear more supernatural

Hope it’s better than American Gods. Really want to like that show but after 3 seasons... I find it so hard to watch. Pablo’s Mad Sweeney was the only thing in the whole show watching, except maybe the cinematography.

@connorblaze - @bobevanz - The first season was awesome. But it started getting worse pretty steadily after that. The problems with production were more than visible. The third season was just awful in pretty much every possible way.
OT a bit, but the people who made the first season (and the Hannibal tv-series) Bryan Fuller and Michael Green should do a miniseries adaptation of DC's Kingdom Come for HBO max. Those hypnotic dream-like visual they used would be perfect for KC's prophecy scenes. Just look at Shadow's dreams Mr. World debut scene from season one and imagine what they could do with Alex Ross' visuals.

Neil Gaiman is to film and tv adaptations to his work as Lucas was to the prequels- gives us amazing characters and stories and then ruins them 20 years later. New gods was great in the first season and Neil stepped and destroyed it. Seeing a sandman who’s not ashen white? Bollocks. The good comic book adaptions are ones that aren’t afraid to recreate the design and looks, this is just an Emo guy in a black tee.
