THE FLASH Season 9 Set Photo Reveals Arrowverse Debut Of A New Captain Boomerang THE FLASH Season 9 Set Photo Reveals Arrowverse Debut Of A New Captain Boomerang

A new photo from the set of The Flash has been revealed, and it confirms that Grant Gustin's Scarlet Speedster will once again square off with Captain Boomerang, albeit a new version of the villain...

Shooting is currently taking place for The Flash's ninth and final season, and a surprise villain has been spotted on The CW series' set. As you can see below, the Scarlet Speedster will be squaring off with Captain Boomerang, though this isn't the same version of the character we've previously seen on screen.

In the comic books, George Harkness first appeared in the pages of The Flash #117 and went on to become one of the hero's most recognisable Rogues.

In 2016's Suicide Squad, the DCEU's Boomerang was captured by the Fastest Man Alive during an attempted robbery. That take on the villain was played by Jai Courtney, though the Arrowverse's version was brought to life by Nick Emad Tarabay. After first debuting in season 3, he was later killed off by Adrian Chase, a.k.a. Prometheus.

Of course, Courtney's version died in last year's The Suicide Squad, likely opening the door to The Flash being allowed to use the character again.

This time, it looks like The 100 star Richard Harmon is playing Captain Boomerang. While it's possible this is a new character who has taken over the mantle, we'd guess that the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths simply mean that The Flash's old foe has been resurrected with a different face.

Very little is known about how The Flash plans to conclude, though it is expected to serve as the end of the Arrowverse. Stargirl takes place in its own world (though presumably the same one as Titans based on recent set photos), as does Superman & Lois. While there was a time they were connected to this reality, that's an idea DC appears to have moved on from.

Check out this first look at Captain Boomerang in The Flash below:

Haven't seen this show since S5. The beginning of S5, lol. That being said, there's a part of me that wants to watch the series finale just out of respect.

@KWilly - same. I haven't watched any Arrowverse show regularly since Crisis, aside from one season each of Stargirl and Superman. I have no desire to watch any of these shows anymore.

But like you said, I'll likely check out the finale just out of respect, and to confirm the shows quality never got better again. I didn't even tune in yet to see Supergirls finale, and I felt like Supergirl, Flash and Arrow were the trinity of this universe. Arrow was oddly enough the lynch pin which held my interest for these shows. Once it ended with Crisis I just felt like the journey was complete. I could stop. Everything since has felt like a chore to sit through, especially with premium streaming TV shows providing cinema quality productions which make the low budget Arrowverse feel tacky now.

I would love to see the CW pin board of what characters are/are not too ridiculous and need to be changed, and when they suddenly become ok to translate more comic accurately

Jai Courtney’s version was pretty perfect, tbh.
He was very authentically Aussie Bogan lol
I’ve had the displeasure of meeting guys who dress, talk and behave EXACTLY like that

Will we finally get a comic accurate Rogues this season...I know Season 1 did a pretty good job, but we never got the full version of the team who were dedicated to destroying the Flash while bearing no ill will to the general public

I love most DC characters, and love most DC Villains, but I feel like DC (outside of Batman and Wonder Woman) doesn't know how to match up villains with the right heroes. The fastest man alive, a man who can literally run back in time because he is so fast, get's villains with boomerangs, heat guns, ice guns, hypnotic flutes and the Top? sigh these are Batman power level villains.

@DarkeyeZ - someone just informed me that the Flash apparently has a deal with the Rogues, that they won't kill people and he won't go all out on them. while this sound kinda stupid for a superhero to make such a deal, it does make more sense when he doesn't defeat them all in the matter of seconds.

@BritishMonkey - we that's a confusing one, because he did debut in Arrow, but it was the first crossover with the Flash, so does that count

I was not expecting to find out this yesterday at all but can't say that I was not surprised nor excited! :D

Quite comic accurate looking, that's a check in the box. And I do think the actor has in it in him to give off that Rogue legacy energy that is Owen Mercer.

Wondering what is that machine, in the other pictures Barry was there leaning against it looking a bit tired while Iris looked very worried.

If Season 9 is the Rogues vs Flash in this way, that's one accurate way to go out. But I bet there'll be some of that Cobalt Blue type of element mixed in there.

@KingPatel @JoshWilding

Deadline confirms that Richard Harmon is playing the second Captain Boomerang, Owen Mercer.

"Per the CW’s description, a comic book favorite, a new post-Crisis Captain Boomerang has recently been released from Iron Heights with a chip on his shoulder. But the twinkle in his eye disguises a dangerous and violent threat to Central City."
