THE FLASH Star Grant Gustin Addresses The Show's "Bittersweet" Ending; Says It Will "Finish On Our Terms"

We recently learned that The Flash will end with its upcoming ninth season, and star Grant Gustin has now commented on the show's conclusion, promising that they were able to "finish on our terms."

Grant Gustin first played Barry Allen in Arrow before racing into his own series, The Flash, in 2014. The show and character have since been a staple on The CW, but that run comes to an end next year with its ninth and final season.

Many fans are understandably disappointed, but the Arrowverse is nearing its end (Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman were cancelled earlier this year). The hope now is that The Flash will go out on a high, even with a truncated final season consisting of only thirteen episodes.

Taking to Instagram this weekend, Gustin shared his thoughts on The Flash's conclusion.

"This week, we announced that season nine of The Flash will be the final season, which is bittersweet," the actor says. "It's been an incredible nearly ten years of playing this character and getting to be a part of this show with an amazing cast and crew, and so much love from you guys - from the fans, people who love the show."

"It's the only reason we've got to do this as long as we have. And I'm very excited to do this one final time, finish on our terms, and I'm going to enjoy every minute of it as much as I can," Gustin continues. "I wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting the show and allowing us to go as long as we have and I could not be more honoured to be associated with this character probably for the rest of my life and career."

There have been rumblings for the past few years that Gustin is looking to move on from The Flash. While many fans would like to see him replace Ezra Miller as the big screen Scarlet Speedster, that doesn't look likely and we're just pleased to hear that the show is going out on its own terms.

Some of the other Arrowverse TV shows haven't been that lucky, so this Fastest Man Alive getting a proper conclusion to his story will be welcomed.

It's good that the show ends now, it's been an exhausting ride with the Arrowverse post Arrow-S3, Legends-S2 and Flash-S4.
I would have hoped that Superman & Lois was still part of the canon and ended next year with 4 seasons under it's belt as a sort of epilogue to the Arrowverse but we won't get that.

Rumor has it that theCW will more than likely be restructured in a reality-fronted network mostly airing reruns of E! content and game-shows. I could see that very much happen (sadly) for the time being until WB is resold or theCW sold off to someone else.

It would be a good cutting off point for the Arrowverse and not forcefully keep the universe going.

Grant Gustin might be the best actor DCCW has ever had. He will be missed and his show was great for 3 to 4 seasons. Better than the others.

I liked season 1 and season 2 was OK but pretty much a repeat of season 1.
I didn't bother with the other seasons.

I’m glad this team was allowed to end their show and not get slashed with a cliffhanger. Wish they did they same for Legends of Tomorrow. I’m kind of hoping they treat this as a farewell to the Arrowverse overall and maybe find a way to pay tribute to the Legends team as well.

Thanks to his work and portrayal of Barry was that Flash and the roster of speedsters went to became so quickly some of my favourite part of DC, this guy always brought his A-game to all Seasons (especially the 6th one imo) and it's good to hear that he is totally cool to always be associated with the Scarlet Speedster.

One of my hopes for Season 9 are that each episode could feel like the mini-character crossover ones from Armageddon, a final chance for team ups and interactions that tie all together for the final storyline.
