Netflix finally debuted a full teaser trailer for The Sandman during Day 1 of Geeked Week, and while it's still a little on the short side, it does feature quite a bit of new footage from the highly-anticipated adaptation of Neil Gaiman's beloved comic series.

This announcement sneak peek gives us a first look at Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine, who does indeed appear to have replaced John Constantine (her great-great-great grandson in the comics) for the purposes of this show, and Boyd Holbrook as escaped nightmare turned serial killer, The Corinthian. Both characters have also received their own posters.

In addition, Gaiman announced during the panel that none other than Star Wars icon Mark Hamill will provide the voice of Merv Pumpkinhead!

The Sandman is set to premiere on August 5. Check out the teaser below, and let us know what you think.

"There is another world that waits for all of us when we close our eyes and sleep — a place called the Dreaming, where The Sandman, Master of Dreams (Tom Sturridge), gives shape to all of our deepest fears and fantasies. But when Dream is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for a century, his absence sets off a series of events that will change both the dreaming and waking worlds forever. To restore order, Dream must journey across different worlds and timelines to mend the mistakes he’s made during his vast existence, revisiting old friends and foes, and meeting new entities — both cosmic and human — along the way."

The Sandman also stars Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death, Charles Dance (Game of Thrones) as black magician Roderick Burgess, and Asim Chaudhry (Black Mirror) and Sanjeeve Bhaskar (Yesterday) as Abel and Cain. Desire and Despair will be played by Mason Alexander Park and Donna Preston, respectively, while Joely Richardson will play Ethel Cripps, and David Thewlis will take on the role of her son John Dee, aka the deranged Dr. Destiny.

The 10-episode first season of The Sandman will adapt the first two arcs of the Vertigo comics series, "Preludes and Nocturnes" and "The Dolls House."

Needs more goth and less color.

@micvalpro - Disagree. I was actually afraid it wouldn't be colorful enough judging by the shots they had been showing. The comics are full of color in many parts, the "goth" aesthetic is only one part of it.

@Pssst - That's right, the goth aesthetics are only really present in Hell and Dream's castle. Morpheus is supposed to stand out like a sore dumb most of the time as a tall dark figure amongst the all the color.

It's not THAT bad. But Death is a joke, unfortunatley.

@TheyDont - without using the actor’s skin color, please explain why Death is a joke.

@TheyDont - Neil Gaimen clearly has no problem with this interpretation of one of his creations so…

@TheyDont - Gaiman himself said that he approves. He IS the source material. Lol

So, in other words, there’s no disrespect to the source material, only to your fragile and narrow worldview.

This show can't scape that it looks cheap, an HBO flagship show budget would have been ideal, but they seem to be trying to get it right which I can appreciate.
I just need the "I am hope" scene to look good, it's my favorite of the whole book. I can look past a lot of stuff if they can do justice to that scene in hell.

@1stDalek - It doesn't look that cheap to me considering it comes from Netflix and even their big budget fantasy shows usually look cheaper than this. It's not visually mind-blowing as it should but the important VFX shots look more than decent. Agree that HBO would have been a better place to realize the show's potential though.

I hope that the writing and acting here can do the heavy lifting needed for this :/

So unfortunate that Netflix landed this series versus HBOMax, Prime or Apple. Looks cheap as usual for their series.

@Dotanuki - dude I've been trying to figure out why I'm so apprehensive about this and I think that's it. HBOMax would have been perfect for it, IMO.

We'll see. At first, I thought the casting was spot on, and in some aspects, I think it was, but others are starting to look... meh.

I have to go back and reread it before this comes out and see... second thought, probably better to wait until after this comes out to re-read it. Don't want to be comparing it too closely to the source while watching it.
