FANTASY ISLAND Star Maggie Q Reveals What Playing Wonder Woman In YOUNG JUSTICE Means To Her - EXCLUSIVE

We recently caught up with Maggie Q to discuss her role in Blumhouse's Fantasy Island, and asked the actress what it meant to her to get to play Wonder Woman in Young Justice. Hit the jump for details...

Blumhouse's Fantasy Island arrives in UK cinemas on March 6th, and we recently caught up with star Maggie Q to discuss her role in writer and director Jeff Wadlow's big screen reboot of the classic TV series (you can find our full interview with the actress by clicking here).

During that conversation, we also talked about her role in Young Justice, the popular animated series that returned last year on the DC Universe streaming service. As you're no doubt already aware, Maggie Q voiced Wonder Woman in the show, and we asked what getting to play the iconic DC Comics superhero meant to her.

"You're talking to the biggest Wonder Woman fan ever. I was born in the late 70s, so I was too young and Lynda Carter was already at the height of her career, but in the 80s, I'm finding this show as a young kid and saying, 'You've got to be kidding me that this woman exists!' I was the biggest Lynda Carter fan you can imagine, and we were young and didn't grow up with money, but at the time there was this bizarre fad called Underoos, and it was underwear with printed superheroes on it and kids wore them out like outfits [Laughs].

"You're putting on underwear like regular clothes, but because it's a character, it was acceptable I guess! I wanted the Wonder Woman set and my best friend had it, but my parents couldn't afford it, so I would borrow hers and she was always like 'I need it back.' I ended up making my Wonder Woman outfit out of paper and colouring it in, and I would do the most ridiculous things as I really did think I was her, and I would climb up on the roof of our house, and jump off and think I could do it because she did! [Laughs] I was a huge Wonder Woman fan, and the women of the 70s, its very genre specific.

"I loved that stuff so much and grew up with it so when that came around, it was so funny and I couldn't believe that I was able to breathe life into this character I loved for so long."

A lot of actresses have voiced Wonder Woman in small screen projects like Young Justice, but Maggie Q's portrayal definitely stands out, and it's amazing to hear just how much the role means to her. Gal Gadot plays the Amazon Warrior on the big screen, of course, but the hero's popularity means we continue to see multiple versions of the character elsewhere.

Season four of Young Justice is said to be in the works, and we'll presumably get to see more of Wonder Woman there. Very little has been revealed beyond the fact it will stream on DC Universe rather than the planned HBO Max platform, but we do know that it will continue to focus on Beast Boy's new Outsiders team.
