Fox Officially Revives THE X-FILES; David Duchovny And Gillian Anderson Will Return

For years we've heard rumors of a new X-Files series, and now Fox has confirmed that they will indeed be resurrecting the classic sci-fi show as a six-episode event series.

Mulder and Scully fans rejoice! Today Fox officially announced the the return of The X-Files as a six-part event series, scheduled to begin production this summer. The last time we saw Agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) they were chasing down stolen organs in the commendably character driven, but overall disappointing second X-Files movie in 2008. That film failed to answer many of the questions left when the series ended back in 2002, but that's something this revival promises to address. Here are the quotes from the press release.

“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” said series creator Chris Carter. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.” “We had the privilege of working with Chris on all nine seasons of The X-Files – one of the most rewarding creative experiences of our careers – and we couldn’t be more excited to explore that incredible world with him again,” added Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group. “The X-Files was not only a seminal show for both the studio and the network, it was a worldwide phenomenon that shaped pop culture – yet remained a true gem for the legions of fans who embraced it from the beginning. Few shows on television have drawn such dedicated fans as The X-Files, and we’re ecstatic to give them the next thrilling chapter of Mulder and Scully they’ve been waiting for.”

The X-Files originally ran for nine, from 1993-2002, and would have to be considered one of the most popular TV shows of all time. No word yet on when these six new episodes will air, but we'll keep you posted.

This would've been really exciting ten years ago. I like the limited series aspect. A satisfying ending for The X-Files? There's a first time for everything.

I love the X-Files! But can someone tell me how I'm supposed to catch up on 6 seasons of it until the new series airs? I'm at the beginning of season 4...

Goddamn, I'd hate to spoil it for myself...

Great news, love this show. As much as I like Arrow, The Flash, SHIELD, etc., they don't hold a candle to The X Files. I'm in the middle of season eight now in my zillionth rewatch, and I have to say that even though the last two seasons weren't as good as the early episodes, they're still pretty awesome, especially the monster of the week ones. I hope they can get Mitch Pileggi back too, can't have The X Files without Skinner.

Loved the X-Files growing up, the last few seasons without Mulder were crap though.

When i was young i really believed the Smoking Man actually rigged the Superbowl so the Bills wouldn't win. Just like he does in the show.

My favorite show growing up. The last film was OK but nothing special which it really needed to be. Hope this turns out great but Carter's involvement is concerning. Would've liked to see some fresh blood take over but I really can't complain about getting more X-Files at the end of the day.

@rormachine No thanks, I found it on variety. Still, the lack of link and proliferation of malicious ads on the site make me unlikely to share anything with my followers. Oh well, I guess the site doesn't need to give its viewers a pleasant experience. Has there been any exploration of creating a dedicated app for CBM?

I just started re-watching the first season on Netflix a few months back.

Every time Scully says "I don't believe in ghosts", I'm like whatever Scully. You have a crucifix around your neck.

It's been so long, I can't remember why she has that necklace if she's atheist.

And what was with that last movie where Mulder and Scully were ex-lovers?

It was like "Wait....what the [frick] did I miss here?"

LOL!
