MINORITY REPORT Television Series Gets Pilot Order From Fox
Described as one of the hottest scripts heading into pilot season, Minority Report, a television sequel to the hit 2002 film, has been officially greenlit by Fox.
Everybody runs.
Back in September, it was revealed that Fox was developing a sequel series to their hit film, Minority Report, and now The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the series has been officially picked up to pilot by Fox. The sci-fi drama, which was described as one of the hottest scripts heading into pilot season, will pick up 10 years after John Anderton ended Precrime in Washington D.C., and will follow one of the three Precogs, presumably one of the twins, who is struggling to lead a "normal" human life as he remains haunted by visions of the future. He'll end up crossing paths with a female detective haunted by her past and who might just be the one person that can help him find a purpose to his gift.
Max Borenstein (Godzilla) wrote the pilot and will also serve as an executive producer alongside Steven Spielberg, Justin Falvey, and Darryl Frank. Fox has tapped Kevin Falls (The West Wing; Franklin & Bash) to be the series showrunner.
The original Academy Award nominated film, which was loosely based on a short story of the same name by Philip K. Dick, was directed by the acclaimed Steven Spielberg (Jurassic Park) and starred superstar Tom Cruise (Edge of Tomorrow) in the lead role with Max von Sydow (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Colin Farrell (Total Recall), and Samantha Morton (John Carter) in supporting parts.
As an additional note, this will be the second Tom Cruise film that received a sequel in the form of a television series, the first being The Firm, which was adapted into a sequel series by NBC and was later cancelled after one season.
