Entertainment Weekly report that Prince Oberyn Martell will be played by Pedro Pascal on the next season of HBO's Game Of Thrones. The Chilean actor has previously appeared in the likes of CBS’ The Good Wife, ABC’s Red Widow and USA’s Graceland. For those unfamiliar with the character, Oberyn is a member of the Martell family of Dorne, and he and his kin will play a major role in the events of the fourth season. The Prince is charming, cunning and very dangerous, earning him the nicname "The Red Viper". "This was a tough one,” showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss reveal to EW. “The Red Viper is sexy and charming, yet believably dangerous; intensely likable, yet driven by hate. The boys love him, the girls love him, and he loves them all back. Unless your last name is Lannister. We found a fellow who can handle the job description and make it seem effortless. He wasn’t easy to find and he won’t be easy to stop.”

Not that it matters but isn't Oberyn gay or something? And his Paramour Ellaria Sand is a lesbian.. After Renly I think they sorely need some STRONG gay characters.

And Oberyn isn't gay but I'm wondering if they'll have him bring his Mistress to court with him like in the book, or use that introduce another Dorne member like his niece or one of his daughters from the Sand snakes?

@Rebellion I was about to say I remember this quote about him specifically "It was said that he bedded men and women both, and had begotten bastard girls all over Dorne." And Ellaria says she wants to have sex with Cersei.

Awesome news. When I was asked what my favorite Game of Thrones scene is, I had to say EVERY scene where Joffrey is bitch-slapped and put in his place by Tyrion. Even Grandad got in on the fun in the season finale! >.<

Oberyn Martell is a beautiful but deadly bad-ass!! He's bisexual and ALL sexes think he's sexy, so he's like a darker skinned Henry Cavill or Oded Fehrer... Who the [frick] is this Dorky shit Pedro?!?!?

chilean is good enough i suppose, the closest HBO will go is gettinfg south americans or some sicilians for the role cuz they're pretty tan too, but i always imagined them as arabian and indians and the lighter ones as israelis and iranians.

hope this guy will do justice to the charachter.
