WESTWORLD Returns On June 26; First Season 4 Trailer Features Some Surprising Faces

We haven't had any updates on Westworld in quite some time, but HBO has now announced that the acclaimed sci-fi drama series is set to return for its fourth season on next month! Check out the trailer.

HBO dropped a surprise trailer for the fourth season of Westworld last night, along with the announcement that the acclaimed sci-fi drama series is set to return to our screens on June 26.

Set to Lou Reed's "Perfect Day," the footage brings us up to speed with the show's main characters, who all appear to have returned to some semblance of normality following the chaotic events of the season 3 finale.

Of course, nothing is ever quite as it seems with this show, and as the trailer gets more than a little unnerving, it becomes clear that some of our beleaguered protagonists still have "violent ends" to come.

Season 3 appeared to wrap up the current storyline, with Dolores Abernathy (Evan Rachel Wood) sacrificing herself to ensure the survival of her people. However, Dolores looks set to return along with the likes of Maeve Millay (Thandiwe Newton), Bernard Lowe (Jeffrey Wright), Charlotte Hale (Tessa Thompson), and Caleb Nichols (Aaron Paul).

Even more surprisingly, it looks like "The Man in Black" (Ed Harris) also survived - although there's always a chance we're seeing another Host body here.

Plot details remain a mystery for now. We do have a brief logline, but all it tells us is that season 4 of Westworld will be “a dark odyssey about the fate of sentient life on earth.”

I think the post-credit scene from the season 3 finale confirmed that William now also is a host. But that's about it with who I remember is replaced.

At this point I'm just gonna assume only Caleb and Wood's characters are humans, as I think they said Dolores wasn't gonna return anymore. With it's future setting (where are my cowboys!?), I wouldn't be surprised if they put human Dolores on ice.

Man I’m going to have to watch a recap of season 3, because whilst it was a huge improvement on whatever season 2 was it wasn’t that memorable

@Twenty23Three - This. There are people in this trailer I know died last season but I don't remember how.

This show went down hill when the redditers writing it tried to outsmart the redditers outsmarting it. I'll watch it, cos it's big budget sci-fi with cool visuals, but season 1 was peak

@Cap1 - I’ve enjoyed this show whilst being fully aware of how messy it’s been since season 2, but describing the writers as redditers is wildly ON POINT lol

@Cap1 - season 2 was ok but season 3 was terrible I can’t even remember what happened and I don’t even want to see a recap.

@GhostDog - lol, incels/hacks felt too critical. I wish we got more in the actual Westworld, could've made several great seasons there. Maddening how boring the samurai world was

@Cap1 - Nolan broke the show by trying to make it so unguessable and feeling threatened by being one-upped by reddit.

We got that Wu-Tang instrumental so not completely boring lol

@GhostDog - and that’s just such a huge misunderstanding of mega fans deciphering where your show is going. It means the writing is good, not bad and in need of a rewrite. Same thing happened with GoT, tho thankfully this is Sopranos compared to how that dumpster fire turned out

@Cap1 - Yea I don't understand why he saw it as a threat. He is trying to outsmart his audience when really their investment in trying to decipher your show is a display of how interested they are.

But he took it as a "[frick] you, your not that smart we figured it out."

@GhostDog - exactly, it’s like saying, ‘see this thing you love? That you spent your own time theorising and investing in? Well you can’t have that cos im better than you!!’ Such a middle-finger to the fans. Ego bigger than my future

I need to watch a serious recap of the first 3 seasons before I dive back into this

Hell yeah! Like many others, I hated Season 2. I couldn’t even finish it - I had to watch a recap of what happened months later - and I’m glad I did.

However, thanks to lockdown, I watched Season 3 and loved it! Can’t wait for this:

Season 1 is amazing television, and thankfully stands on its own, because the following seasons have been a complete implosion.

I thought this show had been cancelled, season 1 was the best season.
