As we know, a future episode of Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. will tie directly into the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and just now at their PaleyFest panel, producer Jeph Loeb revealed that said epsiode will air on Tuesday, April 8 after the Marvel sequel hits theaters on Friday, April 4. If you've seen Cap 2, you'll know how the events of that movie would have to have some ramifications for the tv show -- but since most of you haven't, I won't spoil things here. When asked whether these events would be addressed Loeb responded: “It makes sense. It would certainly not surprise anyone if things did happen from the movie that we're mentioning on the show that we're talking about.” Here are the rest of the highlights courtesy of The Wrap...and someone  mentions the "M" word.

‘Marvel's Agents of SHIELD’ Producer Teases ‘Captain America’ Crossover Episode

– Clark Gregg on reprising Coulson for TV: “I found myself suddenly free.”

– Executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen revealed that Ming Na's character was originally named “Agent Rice.” But, that didn't seem quite right after Na got the role.

– Tech wizzes Fitzsimmons was based on Casey Affleck and Scott Caan's characters in “Ocean's Eleven,” but Elizabeth Henstridge came in and stole the role.

– When the topic of upcoming romantic hookups came up, Chloe Bennet says she and Elizabeth Henstridge ship “Skimmons” (a Skye and Simmons hookup).

– Ming Na suggested that that Skye should be the lovechild of her character and Thor and wants the show to have flashbacks to those love scenes.

– Brett Dalton gets cheeky when asked if he's seeing his character becoming closer to the team. “The character has changed. He wasn't a team player at the start. He's learned to play with the team,” he said with a nod to his character's sexual exploits.

– A lucky fan got a big hug from Gregg and moderator Felicia Day joked, “You're pregnant now.”

– One fan busted Bennet on her previous career as a Chinese pop star. True story, she confirmed.

– When asked if mutants will ever join the show, Loeb answered, “There's no proof of mutants in the Marvel Universe yet.”

The series will return on Tuesday, April 1 for its next new episodes, and then six more uninterrupted new episodes straight through to the season finale.

I know I said I wouldn't be in the comments but I'm one of the first comments, so....lol

Anyway, no proof that Mutants exist yet in the Marvel Universe?! What could he mean by that??

Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver will probably be the first official 'mutants' in the MCU, even if they're called something different

Agent Rice? HAHAHA

I think they should still reference mutants in the MCU. Just don't mention the X-Men and other X-Men related characters and it should work. I think this makes sense.

"Ming Na suggested that that Skye should be the lovechild of her character and Thor and wants the show to have flashbacks to those love scenes."

I laughed really hard when reading this

Yup pretty much.
They need to just call them "Mutants" dammit. Its not like they are mentioning the X-Men if they say mutant.

Like lets say they use characters like, Whirlwind, or Solarr. These characters are mutants, but aren't X-Men characters.

@DrDoom
Exactly. I've been digging forever, and never read ANYWHERE that Marvel can't use the word "mutant", only that they can't use X-Men characters (obviously). Plus like you said the word mutant isn't a Marvel creation, its a freakin scientific term, so Marvel should be able to use it as much as they want.

I want Whedon to do a Buffy and make a musical AoS episode, I want to see a Chloe Wang comeback.

I've never understood the idea that Marvel Studios couldn't use the term mutant. It's just a word, it's not even the brand name or a term exclusive to the brand. I've never seen a lawsuit thrown down over Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, for instance.

I fully expect Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch to be mutants in the MCU. There's a good chance they'll use the term "mutant" itself, although it's also possible that when describing the source of their abilities, they'll simply refer to them as "genetic mutations." I also think it's likely that their mutations will be the result of a failed Super-Soldier attempt (possibly genetic tampering in the womb), similar to the origin of mutants in the Ultimate Marvel universe. That way, they can tie everything back to Captain America: The First Avenger.
TheGambitFreak
TheGambitFreak - 3/23/2014, 4:59 PM
Couldn't they do it in Agents of SHIELD? Like... Say, "Word is Von Strucker has two mutants held hostage, Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch," and get away with it sense it is on tv?

dcpaper

Hold up even if they can say mutant I don't think that marvel would hesitate to use it in fear of a lawsuit or anything. I do however think that marvel doesn't want to start something they can't do anything about.

CherryBomb
CherryBomb - 3/23/2014, 5:29 PM
Yeah, apparently Marvel can't use the word "mutant" it's a little petty, but it's just that using the word in the same context as X Men does sorta directly link the two together and for two separated studios and separate franchises it's not a good idea, especially because of the relationship between the two.

Whedon seems to agree that he wants to entirely differentiate and continue to set up Disney/Marvel Universe as it's own entity and has no desire to even make reference to other studios properties which is fair enough.
beane2099
beane2099 - 3/23/2014, 5:30 PM
I'm sure that "age of miracles" business is just a turn of phrase and not a new way to refer to mutants. On AoS they've been referred to as unregistered gifteds.
CherryBomb
CherryBomb - 3/23/2014, 5:31 PM
@dcpaper

Errrm that's exactly why they're not using it. If you have made a contract relinquishing rights to characters and terms used then you can't go against it. They'd get fined a lot of money. Marvel has relinquished film rights and so have to abide by the limitations of the contract.
