ECHO: We May Have A Positive Update About The HAWKEYE Spin-Off's Disney+ Launch Window

There have been conflicting reports about Marvel Studios' plans for Echo for a while now, but we may finally have some good news to share about the upcoming Hawkeye spin-off's planned premiere window...

2023 was once going to be yet another jam-packed year for the MCU, but the first Disney+ TV series, Secret Invasion, now won't hit our screens until June.

Beyond that, we have Loki season 2 in September and...well, that may well be it. Ironheart and Agatha: Coven of Chaos are no longer expected to be released this year, while What If...? season 2 and X-Men '97 have likely been pushed into 2024 as well.

Where does that leave Echo? We've been hearing conflicting reports on the show's status for a while, but know it needs to be released before Daredevil: Born Again (assuming that's still heading our way next year).

We've uncovered evidence which appears to suggest the Hawkeye spin-off will arrive on Disney+ before 2023 ends as a Marvel Comics TPB called Echo: The Saga of Maya Lopez has a new release date.

Described as, "The stunning and lushly illustrated comic debut of Marvel’s next screen sensation, Echo," it was originally supposed to be released in mid-2023 before being pushed to February 2024. However, it's since shifted to October 31, later this year, suggesting that's roughly around the time Echo will premiere.

It's by no means confirmation, of course, but a November or December premiere for Echo would mean the series fits nicely into the Phase 5 slate and thereby makes 2024 a little less busy.

The origin story of Echo revisits Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox), whose ruthless behaviour in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.

We also know that Echo will star Chaske Spencer (Wild IndianThe English), Tantoo Cardinal (Killers of the Flower MoonStumptown), Devery Jacobs (FX’s Reservation DogsAmerican Gods) and Cody Lightning (Hey, Viktor!Four Sheets to the Wind), with Graham Greene (1883Goliath) and Zahn McClarnon (Dark Winds).

Stay tuned for updates.

I can see that. After Loki season 2, Marvel doesn't have a Q4 live action show set for D+. It could potentially drop in Oct/Nov or mid/late December, whenever SW: Skeleton Crew ends or around the finale.

I thought the positive news was that this show got Batgirl’d.

@mountainman - I mean, that's really more of a neutral news. Like I keep forgetting this is happening until we get an article about it.

@Origame - I would say that this one will get basement-level ratings, but they will likely do the same thing as She Hulk and market the heck out of Daredevil, who will appear once or twice, in order to get people to tune in.

@mountainman - Based on what? Some of y'all are too damn hasty to draw conclusions on fractions of information. You have no idea what to expect.

@Variant - All I have to go on is the following:

- Echo is not a popular character with the GA and didn’t seem to resonate with many people in Hawkeye.
- The last MCU show with a lesser known character as the lead, Ms Marvel, had the lowest viewership of any Marvel show yet.
- The last show featuring Daredevil, She Hulk, marketed him heavily, but featured him very little.

Yes i’m making some assumptions based on those facts, but I’m not just pulling this out of nowhere.

@mountainman -

- Neither was GotG. Since Vol. 1, they became a household name. Popularity isn't a prerequisite for quality.
- Resonated with me...and others have commended the actresses performance.
- Comparing to Ms. Marvel is a false equivalence. But MM also got great reviews. So you're cherrypicking the criteria in the first place.
- Echo hasn't done any marketing; you have no idea what to expect. Can't argue with guessing.

There is no good reasoning to conclude this show will get low ratings. It's just an extremely premature assessment with no good information to back it.

@Variant - Well I guess we will see who is right when it comes out. I know I won’t be watching. It sounds like you will be. This website is for discussing properties and people make predictions about performance all the time. It’s unfortunate that my prediction based on some tangible facts upsets you so much. Enjoy what you want to but don’t get in a huff when others have a different opinion than you do.

@mountainman - I'm not upset at all. I'm merely having a debate with you. The show could suck. I don't have the information to draw such a conclusion tho. The show could be gritty and dark and brutal and may appeal to you. You don't know yet tho.

@Variant - But it seems like you are equating what I said (I predict this won’t do well) with some others comments saying things like “nobody wants this”. I didn’t say that.

It might be good. And I’ll be happy if it is. I’m just predicting that it won’t. If it surprises me I will be the first one to state my prediction was wrong. I don’t wish for Marvel’s failure. I want it to be good again.

@mountainman - That's a sensible response. I can definitely agree with what you've said here.

@Variant - Look at us! I know I’m opinionated, as many of us are, but I try to be objective where I can be. Our opinions may differ, but I hold no hate for people who feel differently from me, even if we go back and forth on here.

Can't believe we're getting a whole ass show about effing Echo.

@Doomsday8888 - Why? It's original. Lesser known characters bring a bit of variety to the storytelling.

@Variant - That's true. While I may not be fully on the hype train for this show, it has a lot of possibilities to flesh out the street level side of the MCU.
Variant

@FilmGuy7878 - Exactly. I mean, technically I have low hype for this at the moment because I don't know exactly what this will be like. But I also have no hate. I'm open to the potential for this be an awesome installment to the MCU.

If they just make a really good show, Echo could end up being a more popular character. Pretty much how GotG was treated.
