2023 was once going to be yet another jam-packed year for the MCU, but the first Disney+ TV series, Secret Invasion, now won't hit our screens until June.
Beyond that, we have Loki season 2 in September and...well, that may well be it. Ironheart and Agatha: Coven of Chaos are no longer expected to be released this year, while What If...? season 2 and X-Men '97 have likely been pushed into 2024 as well.
Where does that leave Echo? We've been hearing conflicting reports on the show's status for a while, but know it needs to be released before Daredevil: Born Again (assuming that's still heading our way next year).
We've uncovered evidence which appears to suggest the Hawkeye spin-off will arrive on Disney+ before 2023 ends as a Marvel Comics TPB called Echo: The Saga of Maya Lopez has a new release date.
Described as, "The stunning and lushly illustrated comic debut of Marvel’s next screen sensation, Echo," it was originally supposed to be released in mid-2023 before being pushed to February 2024. However, it's since shifted to October 31, later this year, suggesting that's roughly around the time Echo will premiere.
It's by no means confirmation, of course, but a November or December premiere for Echo would mean the series fits nicely into the Phase 5 slate and thereby makes 2024 a little less busy.
The origin story of Echo revisits Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox), whose ruthless behaviour in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.
We also know that Echo will star Chaske Spencer (Wild Indian, The English), Tantoo Cardinal (Killers of the Flower Moon, Stumptown), Devery Jacobs (FX’s Reservation Dogs, American Gods) and Cody Lightning (Hey, Viktor!, Four Sheets to the Wind), with Graham Greene (1883, Goliath) and Zahn McClarnon (Dark Winds).
Stay tuned for updates.
