The first season of Disney+'s Hawkeye spin-off, Echo, laid the groundwork for Wilson Fisk's (Vincent D'Onofrio) story to continue in Daredevil: Born Again, but things were left more open-ended for the title character.
In the finale, Maya Lopez managed to tap into her inherited Choctaw abilities and take out the Kingpin's men, but she decided not to take revenge on her "uncle," instead using her healing power to rid him of the anger and hatred he's carried around since using a hammer to kill his abusive father when he was a child.
When we last saw Maya, she was sitting down for a meal with her family, seemingly putting her criminal past behind her.
Echo hasn't been renewed for a second season, but we are sure to see Lopez again down the line. While speaking to Screen Rant, star Alaqua Cox was asked what she'd most like for her character if and when she gets the opportunity to reprise the role.
"[I'd like more of] Maya's family. I wouldn't mind if they went to New York City and all got revenge on those people that have hurt them and also used the powers of their ancestors that they have. I think that'd be cool storyline. And the Green Goblin. That would be pretty cool. I think I'd like to face the Green Goblin."
A face-off with Spider-Man's nemesis might be a bit of a stretch, but there are plenty of other heroes and villains Cox would be interested in interacting with.
"I would hope that she's able to cross paths with other superheroes as well, for example, the Avengers. That would be a dream come true if she was able to meet any of the Avengers or even if she was in Daredevil [Born Again]. We just don't know. I'd like to see any of those possibilities."
There were early rumors that Echo might appear in Born Again, but we'd be surprised if she showed up - especially after the recent creative overhaul.
"Marvel Studios presents Echo in which Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) struggles to reconnect with her Native American roots while balancing aspirations tied to a life of crime as successor to the brutal legacy of Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) aka Kingpin," reads the most recent synopsis. "In the first episode, we are introduced to Maya Lopez and her struggles."
In addition to Cox, D'Onofrio and Cox (Charlie), the show will also star Chaske Spencer as Henry, Tantoo Cardinal as Chula, Graham Greene as Skully, Cody Lightning as Cousin Biscuits, Devery Jacobs as Bonnie, and Zahn McClarnon as William Lopez.
The origin story of Echo revisits Maya Lopez (Cox), whose ruthless behaviour in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.
