Hawkeye arrives on Disney+ this November, but it won't just be Kate Bishop we meet in the series. Alaqua Cox will take on the role of Maya Lopez/Echo, a Daredevil supporting character in the comic books who was trained to be an assassin by Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin (after he murdered her father and framed the Man Without Fear for the crime).
Rumour has it that we're also getting an Echo spinoff series, something Cox appeared to confirm when she recently shared a casting call for the series on Instagram.
Now, the actress has revealed an impressive workout video showing the training needed to take on this physically demanding role. Cox is clearly putting the work in to bring Echo to life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is no great surprise when the character is a badass warrior who once served as Ronin!
The addition of Echo to the MCU is significant for a number of reasons, including an increased level of representation on screen. Cox is set to be the franchise's first Native American star and, like Eternals star Lauren Ridloff, is among this shared world's first deaf leads. As you can also see below, the actress is also an amputee, though it's unclear whether that will be referenced in any way.
Hawkeye is set to premiere on Disney+ on November 24. Keep checking back here for updates!
