Marvel's INHUMANS Trailer: 5 Moments Which Prove Marvel TV Has F***ed Up The Property

The reaction to the first trailer for Marvel's Inhumans has not been good and it's easy to see why! Here, we break down five crucial moments which point to the expensive series being a total disaster...

Inhumans was supposed to be a Phase 3 movie but plans changed and Black Bolt and company are now on their way to television. They will, however, grace the big screen for a little while as the first two episodes will premiere on IMAX screens. It's an unprecedented partnership between Marvel and IMAX and one which has seen a lot of money spent on the eight-part series. Movie money, in fact!

If that first trailer was any indication, it has not paid off as the show looks terrible. We've had our suspicions since the first image, though set photos and leaked screens also pointed to it being bad.

This sneak peek seems to confirm that, and given how Scott Buck failed to deliver with Iron Fist in terms of the costume and action scenes, perhaps we shouldn't be all that surprised about it not shaping up to be anything special! What you'll find here then is a look at five moments in that trailer which we think prove that Marvel TV has dropped the ball with Inhumans and will deliver a huge flop...

5. Inhumans, a.k.a. The Most Boring Looking Aliens Ever

Well, they sure as hell didn't spend much on those costumes, did they? We've already talked in length about how bad pretty much each and every lead character in Inhumans looks, but what about the rest of this offshoot of the human race? Well, those with something important to do (I'm assuming they're advisors or members of some sort of council) look like they've stepped out of a twenty-year-old episode of Star Trek or some random Syfy series while the rest...well, they're just laughable.

Yes, the Inhuman people are just a bunch of average Joes walking around in neutral coloured rags. The one time we do see a character who looks like an alien of some sort (the guy with green skin), he too looks absolutely horrendous. It says it all when Supergirl's Martian Manhunter looks better, especially as The CW show's budget is just a fraction of what was spent on Inhumans.

4. LOL, Lockjaw Is A Giant Dog!

What even is this? As CGI characters go, Lockjaw does look pretty good but it appears Marvel (whose TV division is all about being cute on social media and creating GIF-worthy moments for Tumblr) desperately wants him to go viral. The noble teleporting Inhuman is seemingly going to be played for laughs in Inhumans if this trailer is any indication as it wraps up with a cringe-worthy scene where he "hilariously" acts like a giant dog. Great stuff, eh?

You can already tell that Lockjaw is probably going to act like a goofy big dog throughout, and while I can forgive the fact that those prongs on his head have been worked into his fur, he does basically just look like an oversized pup who just so happens to have the ability to teleport. I simply can't imagine him being anywhere near as noble or interesting as his comic book counterpart and, thinking about, those effects really aren't the best either!

3. So, Yeah, They F***ed Up Black Bolt

I know Black Bolt doesn't speak but I still can't quite get over the fact that Marvel chose such a bland looking actor to play the character here. Everything about him screams generic TV star and he often just looks out of place. There's nothing regal about the guy and he doesn't even appear to be a particularly good actor, something emphasised by one of the final scenes in the Inhumans trailer.

After being hit by a cop, Black Bolt lets out a grunt which sends police cars flying, but man, the insanely powerful King just comes across like a male Black Canary! His powers aren't portrayed in an interesting or unique manner and the whole sequence borders on being totally cringe-worthy. Hell, it doesn't even look like Black Bolt is in any sort of control of his powers as he looks so shocked by what's happening and it definitely seems the man who can destroy a city block with a whisper has been watered down in a big way.

2. Attil-Yawn

If Inhumans was going straight to ABC without any involvement from IMAX, I could probably forgive the horrendously cheap looking sets because they're pretty much the standard for shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and The Flash. The fact Attilan looks so bland and boring is baffling, though, especially when so much money has been pumped into the eight-part series.

Black Bolt and Medusa's home looks like a standard luxury apartment, and while the architecture and furniture seem to be ultra-modern, none of it appears to be very alien in appearance or even remotely special. Just compare Attilan to Wakanda in the Black Panther trailer and it says it all about how much Marvel TV has dropped the ball in terms of design. Inhumans should have wowed viewers when taking them to Attilan for the first time, but the home of these characters appears to be totally underwhelming in just about every way.

1. Oh Look, It's Ramsay Bolton

When Marvel decided to cast Iwan Rheon as Maximus, it was pretty clear to see that they were looking to steal a bit of Game of Thrones' shine. The actor has, after all, been praised for his work there and typecasting him in this series clearly made sense to Marvel TV if it means Inhumans could get a rub from that. Unfortunately, the actor really doesn't look very good here, something not helped by the bizarre accent he's using throughout the trailer.

That's clearly been done to distinguish Maximus from Ramsay Bolton but the villain as a whole doesn't seem to really work. For starters, his plan does actually make a lot of sense and sounds like the best move for the Inhumans, so is Black Bolt the real bad guy here? Who knows, but if my wife had hair which looks as appalling as the wig worn by Medusa, I'd be tempted to turn to villainy.

Do you guys agree with these points or do you still plan on giving Inhumans a chance this fall? As always, share your thoughts in the comments section below.
