Deadline reports that Anji White will be a series regular in Marvel Studios' Ironheart. According to the trade, the actress will play Riri Williams' mom, Ronnie, in the six-episode Disney+ TV show.
We initially expected Ironheart to be released this year. However, with Disney scaling back its streaming slate and Marvel Studios getting back to quality over quantity now Bob Iger is back in charge of its parent company, it's instead slipped into 2024 alongside a number of other upcoming small screen MCU projects.
White joins a cast which includes Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star Dominique Thorne as the title character, along with Anthony Ramos, Manny Montana, Shakira Barrera, Alden Ehrenreich, Regan Aliyah, Shea Couleé, Zoe Terakes, Paul Calderón, and Cree Summer.
Most of their roles are being kept under wraps, though we do know that Ramos is playing The Hood in a story which promises to pit science against magic.
In the same report, it's pointed out that Sacha Baron Cohen is likely playing Mephisto in Ironheart. Recently, it was rumoured that the demonic villain is the new owner of Avengers Tower and, for some reason, has a vested interest in technology.
Going back to White, and you might know the actress best for her roles in Fargo, Empire, Chicago P.D., and Hope Springs Eternal.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was a solid introduction for Riri but by the time all was said and done, she'd been forced to leave her new suit in Shuri's home nation. However, even before then, we saw she had a penchant for building Iron Man suits.
The armours we've seen in set photos have a more homemade look to them, anyway, and it currently appears as if Tony Stark/Iron Man will have only a minor role in Riri's origin story (that could change, though, as Ehrenreich is thought to be playing Obidiah Stane's son).
As noted, Ironheart will premiere on Disney+ next year.
