LOKI EP On Season 2 Finale: "You Can't Be The God Of Stories If You're Not Going To Tell More Stories"

Season 2 of Loki concluded on seemed to be a pretty definitive note for Tom Hiddleston's God of Mischief, but EP Kevin Wright has indicated that there are more stories to tell...

The season 2 finale of Loki hit Disney+ last week, and the emotional episode finally revealed the God of Mischief's "Glorious Purpose."

Loki did end up sitting on a throne, but not the one he had originally envisioned. After deciding to, for all intents and purposes, sacrifice himself by travelling back to the Temporal Loom and using his magic to gather all the loose timelines together, Loki essentially transformed into a version of Yggdrasil, the World Tree from Norse mythology.

It's implied that the new "God of Stories" must sit here for eternity to ensure that his friends and everyone else can live in peace on the various timelines, but will this be the last we see of the character?

While speaking to EW, executive producer Kevin Wright suggested that plans may already be in place for God Loki's return.

"I speak for myself and not Marvel, but I am certainly pitching ideas of where I could see certain stories going," he teased. "I think there are a lot of stories you can tell at the TVA, and we are just scratching the surface on that. I would love to see more stories with Loki, and I think Tom would continue to play this character until he is Richard E. Grant's Classic Loki [laughs]. But I don't think that means you need to have this story every year or every two years. It's about doing it when we have a good story to tell. I would love to keep working with these filmmakers."

"We built a really awesome team, and if Loki is Breaking Bad, maybe there's a way for this team to keep telling stories with our version of Better Call Saul — whether that's with Sylvie, with the TVA, or with a new Loki," he added. "But we only want to do that if we have the right story and it can be just as fulfilling as this one. After all, you can't be the God of Stories if you're not going to tell more stories."

There's been speculation that the show will tie-in to Deadpool 3 and, ultimately, Avengers: Secret Wars, which does seem likely. Exactly what role Loki himself will play in the MCU going forward remains to be seen.

In the same interview, Wright revealed that Tom Hiddleston improvised Loki's final "for you, for all of us" line, which is a direct callback to a line from 2011's Thor.

"It was 100 percent Tom. We had already done a few takes of the first part of that line, which was, "I know what kind of god I need to be." And on the final take, Tom said, "Hey, can I try this?" As soon as he said it, all of us were like, "This is going to be the take." It almost gave me Truman Show vibes, that final sign-off, looking straight down the camera. But that story gets to the heart of how Tom is always trying to make things better. We just had to build a series that could give him the framework to have those creative pivots. Everyone would just kind of throw their hands up and say, "Geez, this is why this guy is fantastic."

Loki season 2 "promises new excitement as it thrusts the infamous God of Mischief into a new set of adventures with the TVA."

The series stars Tom Hiddleston, Sophia Di Martino, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Eugene Cordero, Rafael Casal, Tara Strong, Kate Dickie, Liz Carr, Neil Ellice, with Jonathan Majors, Ke Huy Quan and Owen Wilson.

Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead, Dan Deleeuw and Kasra Farahani will direct all six episodes.

The head writer is Eric Martin. Kevin Feige, Stephen Broussard, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Kevin R. Wright, Tom Hiddleston, Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead, Eric Martin and Michael Waldron are the executive producers, with Trevor Waterson serving as co-executive producer.

All six episodes of Loki season 2 are now streaming on Disney+.

It's a nice callback, it's not blatant nostalgia bait, barely anyone would notice. Nicely done, Tom...

I'm kinda of hoping this is the last time we see Loki so it don't ruin that wonderful finale.

Watched the last two eps again this weekend - still had all of the emotional impact that they did in the first viewing.

Marvel please do more shows of this quality...

...and WWBN-esque one offs.

@WhatIfRickJames - agreed. Loki and Werewolf felt very different from the rest of the Saga so far. The same goes for Eternals imo

''After all, you can't be the God of Stories if you're not going to tell more stories.''

I get he's making a nice play of words with this sentence, but it doesn't make sense to me. ''You can't have the God of Stories and not tell more stories'' makes more sense to me.

Anyway, that callback to the first Thor was really good (even moreso because Tom came up with it). Kinda reminds me off how they came up with ''I Am Iron Man'' on set too.

I hope that Loki plays into either The Kang Dynasty or Secret War movies. Given he's now a god guarding the branches of time, I have a feeling that Kang will either not be pleased by this or he is still orchestrating Loki's and the TVA's destinies.

Given that we still have some ways to go in the multiverse saga of the MCU, I hope this isn't the last we see of Loki and the TVA crew.

@bcom - I think the HWR threat is over now and a Kang is done orchestrating everything, but I could see another Kang be coming for Loki's throne.

The multiversal war is doomed to happen again, and another HWR variant will arise. Only this time, he will be defeated before he can ascend the throne this time around I bet.

@bkmeijer1 - Perhaps that's what the Kang Dynasty movie will be about? All the Kang variants trying to dethrone God Loki and take back control at the end of time with the Avengers stepping up to try to stop the multiversal war from happening?

bkmeijer1 - 11/14/2023, 2:03 AM
@bcom - could be. My guess is that might be more what Secret Wars is about. Think KD will be more about Kang(s) trying to conquer the MCU-616 as they might be the only universe standing in the path to domination

Loki's not a god. He's just an alien ice giant. There's only One God and He is YHWH Jehovah, the Father of Jesus Christ His only Begotten Son, who saved our souls in the Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins. Believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins, and that God raised Him from the dead, repent of your sins, accept God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit into your heart and you will be saved.

God worked through Jesus Christ to save our souls. For God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son Jesus Christ, that all who believe on Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Jesus Christ is The Way, The Truth and The Life. No one comes to the Father Jehovah God but through Him.

Not long after I got saved I prayed to God for help understanding the Holy Bible, and that same day someone knocked on my door asking me if I wanted to understand the Bible.

@MarkCassidy - I thought you meant the trunk of a car, so I got confused. Then I realised you probably meant the elephant, not Ganesha driving a car (which would be cool too)
SpiderParker
SpiderParker - 11/13/2023, 9:37 PM
@dagenspear - Thats good and all, but thats a fairly new god, how about you pray to the old gods instead? It's basically scientology of its time. If you don't like older things, then I would like to suggest you to create a new God, the world does like a new one every now and then.

Ask AI, if it can help you. A couple of tips, the lore must be engaging and TOO detailed almost as if written by a delusional psycho, it must be written in a higher sense of authority and power as if they guy is not writting it from under a rock but above the world. I'm sure you will figure out the rest and be fine.
