LOKI Season 2 Casts BLINDSPOTTING Actor Rafael Casal In Mysterious Major Role

Some more Marvel casting news here, as Deadline reports that Blindspotting star Rafael Casal has joined the cast of Loki season 2 in an undisclosed role. Could he be playing Zaniac, perhaps?

Cameras are now rolling on the second season of Loki, and we have word on a late addition to the cast. Deadline reports that Blindspotting actor Rafael Casal has signed on for the Disney+ series in an undisclosed role, although the trade does mention that he will be playing a "major" new character.

Casal was actually spotted by eagle-eyed fans in some recent set photos, and even though he didn't appear to have any distinguishing features in the shots, there's speculation that he might be playing the villainous Zaniac.

Casal co-wrote, produced and starred in the 2018 Blindspotting movie before going on to executive produce Starz’s small-screen spinoff. His other acting credits include Good Lord Bird, Bad Education and Are You Afraid of the Dark?

For many, Loki is still the best MCU-set Disney+ series (it's still the most-watched) we've seen on the streaming service, so a lot of fans were disappointed when it was announced that director Kate Herron would not be returning to helm the second season. Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead will co-direct a majority of the episodes in her stead, with Eric Martin, who penned "The Nexus Event" and "For All Time. Always" episodes, taking over from Michael Waldron as Head Writer.

The season finale of Loki concluded with Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) following through on her plan to kill "He Who Remains" (Jonathan Majors), splintering the Sacred Timeline and causing the rebirth of The Multiverse in the process. We then saw the God of Mischief (Tom Hiddleston) arrive at what he believed to be the familiar surroundings of The TVA, only to discover that he'd actually entered a reality ruled over by another Kang Variant.

What would you guys like to see from the second season? Drop us a comment down below.

No idea at all who is this Zaniac, but likely he will be a little re-imagined for the show's purpose and for the overall grander story of the MCU.

Hoping to see more of Jonathan Major's Kang Variant in S2. I assume we are still not going to see The Conqueror Variant that is the most important and dangerous one.

I remember Zaniac being believed to have been Jack the Ripper right? That's all I know about this character, and based off that I'm hoping we're getting 1888 London now

Kind of weird that the only D+ show that got a season 2 confirmed so far is Loki and What If. Clearly part of the problem with announcing 300 D+ shows as first season shows, you just dont have time right now to focus on properties that warrant 2nd seasons. Hopefully this will be made clear at Comic Con.

If they continue with the multiverse and variant universes, I would love to see Loki and Mobius appear in the Hydra controlled Earth we glimpsed in Doctor Strange. I think it would add more weight to what Captain America told him in Avengers about disagreeing in Germany and Loki could see what happened when a man stood above everyone else. I want Loki to experience everything he has done to slowly break the cycle and become a hero.

Do we know if Season 2 is coming out before or after QuantumMania yet?

@thewanderer -
After.

Ant-Man 3 is February, Loki Season 2 started filming in June and probably won't finish filming until late August. The turnaround time for VFX's is too long for it remotely to stand a chance at releasing prior to Ant-Man 3, especially as Ant-Man 3 got pushed forward.

@Scarilian - thanks. I figured it would be after, but am curious how that will impact Kang in season 2.

@thewanderer -
I'd guess the Kang variant in Loki S2 will be unrelated to anything else

@Scarilian - he seemed to be the “prime” Kang though.

I keep kicking myself for having never seen BLINDSPOTTING. Heard nothing but great things about it. Oddly enough, my little brother has done some stuff on the TV show that I need to see as well

At this point the MCU is adapting characters that are so vague or unknown that I'm pretty certain people claiming to know them are talking out their a**.

@bobevanz - Marvel Studios makes C-list characters more compelling than most other studios do with A-list characters.

Whine somewhere else. This shit is getting old.
