What follows is an excerpt from that interview:

“Yeah man. I’ve been interested in that project and have been keeping my eyes on it for years,” replied Gibson. “Marvel just has to make Luke Cage a priority. Marvel has to make this movie a priority man. Everybody wants to see Luke Cage. The fans have been talking about it forever. They have to do it for the fans,” the actor continued. “I see what they are doing with Green Lantern and all these other films, that’s great but they need to step it up on Luke Cage. It’s time to get this thing going and I’m ready. I got my headband ready, my muscles are ready, and I’m ready for Luke Cage. Marvel has to get ready. Marvel has to step it up and get this movie written and done so that we can go into production on it. The time is now.”

I followed up by asking him if he still hopes to work with director John Singleton on the project. “Oh absolutely I hope John directs it. But John has to still be excited about it too if you know what I mean. Its like so many years have gone by and everybody is kind of in a different place right now,” Gibson said.

I continued by asking the actor what he likes most about the character of Luke Cage. “I just relate to his strength as a leading man with the history that he has. I like his story, the layers. It’s his character. It’s not just blowing up shit and fighting people, you know? I can relate to that guy a lot.”

Writer Meredith Woerner of io9.com, also peppers Tyrese Gibson with questions about his possible involement in a 'Luke Cage' film. (Full Article)

What follows is an excerpt from that interview:
Your fans are going to be pretty sad if you're no longer going for the Luke Cage role. Is that what you're saying? We would love to see superhero movie with an African American lead, it would be amazing.

No I'm not saying I'm not interested in that role, but I think Luke Cage is going to be a lot of fun when that happens. But it's not the Teddy Pendergrass movie, it's not Martin Luther King. It's Luke Cage, you know? [Laughs] ... I would love to do it. They just got to make it more of a priority. Marvel, Marvel films, Marvel pictures, the studio – they have to make this African-American superhero a priority. All the other movies, the Green Lanterns, that's great, but they have to make Luke Cage a priority. They have to write it, develop it, get it made. And they have to call me, and let's get it on. I mean, they've been talking about this Luke Cage project for years. What is the hold up? Let's get it on.

We would love to see a lot more diversity in the superhero world.

Oh I'm ready to go, baby.

Well, Tyrese is very passionate about this project, but then again I don't see a lot of starring roles in feature films being offered to him either. I think if you asked him if he'd be interested in playing anyone for a paycheck he'd perk up. I also would add that I have never watched a movie that he was in and said,"Gosh this guy sure can act." Actually, most of the time I say,"Gosh, this guy plays the same role, over and over again. Doesn't he have any range?"

Since Tyrese can't act his was out of cracker jack box. I ask, who should play Luke Cage?

Isaiah Mustafa - This Luke Cage would smell nice and have good abs.

Idris Elba - Only negative I can come up with for Idris is that he would be in too many comic book movies by the time Luke Cage is made.

Jamie Foxx - Can't trust anyone with two X's in his name. One, okay. Three, Okay. But only two? Eh, not so much.

Chiwetel Ejiofor - Can't pronounce his name for the life of me, but I think he is perfect for the part.

He seems like he'd be a good Cage. Him, Terry Crews, or even Old Spice Guy should get the role.

@Intruder

yes we all know Marvel should move forward with Black Panther. but Luke Cage should be moving forward also to the big screen.

Luke Cage and Iron Fist both should have their own solo movie then they both crossover in each other movies to hint for a Heroes for Hire movie.

when The Avengers comes out next year Marvel better give us some announcement about other Marvel characters. if i hear Black Widow, Hawkeye and War Machine going to have a solo movie i will be p!ssed

@Intruder

well i never include Cap, Thor annd Iron Man sequels in the list. god Ant-Man really no a fan of him to be honest.

nothing wrong with a Heroes for Hire tv series but i dont think nothing wrong for it to be a movie. but by default the Punisher should not be turn into a movie again just a tv series.

NO TYRESE for Luke Cage. doesnt fit. If Marvel's gonna put a major black character on screen, it should be Black Panther

@Jazzman: Ryan Phillippe as Iron Fist? Heck No. I think Charlie Hunnam (the guy from Sons of Anarchy) would be a better fit.

@Jazzman

Ray Park was the original choice for Iron Fist and Isaiah Mustafa would be good if he bulked up!

they should def just skip Luke Cage and put together a Heroes for Hire movie. Plz skip the [frick]ing origin movies and get right to the nitty gritty.
