Ms. Marvel is set to premiere on Disney+ this June, and thanks to Total Film we have a new look at heroic teen Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) as she prepares to mask-up and embrace her destiny as the MCU's latest costumed crime-fighter.
During an interview with the mag, Ms. Marvel co-creator Sana Amanat explained what it was about Vellani that ultimately landed her the lead role.
"She just had this energy, and this innocence, and this quirkiness to her,” said Amanat. "In one of her auditions, she really went from being very nerdy and quirky, to emotional and almost like she had this understanding of a world that someone beyond her years should have."
"She’s this young character who is very much a fan of the bigwigs of the Marvel Universe like the Avengers," she continued. "And she doesn’t feel necessarily like she can stand toe to toe with them. But I think, ultimately, she can, and she does."
Khan will make her debut in Ms. Marvel before going on to join fellow cosmically-powered heroes Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) on the big screen in The Marvels next year.

Life gets better with super powers, right?"
